LSU SCOTT YELLOW & BRANDY

Anyone growing both ?
Would like to know more about whether they are the same or different and how
they performed. JR used to sell this variant reportedly originated from LSU and he
called it Brandy.

My understanding they are the same.  I received it labeled with both names.  No fruit yet to show.

They are the same.

I asked James how he came up with the name. He said he just looked at the tree Nd said, that looks like brandy. Brandy sounds better than Lsu Scott yellow anyways. So it is the same fig.

Paul,

And for a minute I thought you came up with a fig and brandy concoction.

Should have known.

Rafed,
I actually have done that!
A quart glass jar filled with 'halved' sun dried figs and then filled/topped with brandy.
The result was more like a 'sweet brandy liqueur' - sadly, all fig taste gone...

Thanks for the info guys.

I saw the comments on Dan's Cajun forum and decide to check out what was
mentioned. LSU have so many good figs and I wish I have good weather to trial
them here.

@Rafed -- being more house bound with this weather, you could be right about
bright ideas. Actually I told the wife that it is easier for me to buy a tent and put
all my trees in the tent than to bring them into the garage or dig holes to bury the
pots. She said " GO FOR IT ".

I ordered Brandy from JR but it produced a dark fig. I called JR to let him know and he said "I'll make it right, Governor." The world needs more personalities like James ROW-BAN.

I was looking up info about Brandy because I have one and found this thread. It's a one year old tree and in a 3 gallon pot. Yesterday I noticed that it is the only potted fig out of 25 or so on the south side of my house that has leaves on it. It had one small, slightly mishaped fig on it. One branch has the fig the other has the leaves. I took a few pictures and then sampled the fig. It was sweet and very good. I wish I had more to get a better idea of it's taste characteristic It is definitely a dark fig.

You sure it is not mislabeled?

Gene, mine were not that dark. I got 2 of them. I think you might have Scott's Black.

It wasn't mislabeled on my end. My friend also got one with dark figs. I will say it was very good tasting and I looking forward to the coming season and hopefully it will give me a dozen of so. If it a Scott's Black that is fine with me. Time will tell.

Gene - Very interesting dark fig you got. I have to say I read somewhere in this forum that Brandy from JR could be mislabelled. Also, ex-forum member Dan did say JR's Brandy is not the same Scott Yellow he has. Well as long as they are good tasting, especially around this time of the year, you got a dandy. By the way did your Brandy come from JR ? Thanks for posting the pic's. Another fig friend in Florida told me the fig plants are growing fast. Man, you guys are in fig paradise with ripe figs.

Paully, yes my tree came from JR.

It would be interesting to compare it to "Queue Long".
We shall see in the Summer.

Only thing is is that the QL has a sort of long next and the LSU/Brandy doesn't.
