LSU Scott's Black 2011 & 2012

PHD,

I agree with Herman and Navid. I also have LSU Purple. Last season, my first having it, it produced heavily but than LSU Scott's Black. Also, in terms of production, Purple was much better and sweeter than Scott's Black. However, the flavor of Scott's Black was more complex. Given a choice, if at their best...Yes. I mean...Yes, both! Note. Both are in 10 gallon pots.

I would also add LSU Improved Celeste to the list. I am interested in reading more information about LSU Golden Celeste, LSU Late Black, O'Rourke, and LSU Scott's Yellow as well as posting some of my own.

These both sound like worth trying but I've looked for both figs you mentioned (LSU black, O'Rourke) on the only two lists (Jon and UCDavis) of publically available cuttings I know about. Unless I missed them, neither are listed.  Other than finding and buying already rooted plants, where can these be found?

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. LSU Purple sounds like another good fig but like Kadota I don't have the proper amount of heat here in North Jersey.  I should move to S. California. Maybe Jon or Gina have room for me LOL.  I'll bring my figs and can wash the dishes :) :)

 Take care
  Pete

Gina,

I can set an air layer for you on my LSU Scott's blk now, and send you few cuttings from my O'Rourke when it goes dormant. Just email me.

Navid.

That's a good-looking fig. And is that a sucker at the base of the tree? Twice as nice.

Wow, Navid. That is very generous of you. I'd love to have both of them. Hopefully by then I'll have some rooted figs of interest for you in return.

John,

The tree has been good to me and shared with a few others. Here it is today:

Here is the top that I layered through the winter and potted up in Feb/Mar.

JD,

That's a good looking fig.

It helps to have excellent advice on demand...and Mother Nature is exquisite!

Great job!  Thanks for the info!  Sun and Mon are my days to devote to my cuttings that haven't rooted yet and see what I need to do.

I'm so jealous of everyone who can grow figs and get main crops.

JD,

Those are some beautiful trees.

Pete

They are beautiful!  I 'll have to start a list and put this on top!

JD,

How are your main crop Scott's black coming along?

I purchased one this spring and look forward to seeing how it does.
