LSU Scott's Black

I have a small live plant I would be willing to mail as a bare root...I would be willing to mail it for postage or for a trade of a cutting of an interesting variety. I also have small St. Anthony's fig plant I could also mail. I also have a few real slender Genovese Nero cuttings, some LSU Gold cuttings, and one Peter's Honey cutting...not looking to make any money, just getting rid of surplus...

That's a really nice offer!  I'd love to know more about LSU Scott's Black as far as it's growth habits and fruit size/flavor profile.  Bobby sent me cuttings last year, and I've got one baby plant.  It was started and grew in ground (in the wrong place of course) last year, and now it has two strong trunks and is in a 5 gallon pot to develop more roots for it's actual place in ground.

I can't take you up on your offer, but someone will for sure.

Please tell me more about LSU Scott's Black.

Yes. They are the same. I just dropped off the LSU. 

There is a LSU Black and a LSU Scott's Black.

I can't address cold tolerance - it rarely frosts here. But I have Scott's Black and it's a very nice fig here in SoCal. Very productive. Maybe an 8 out of 10 on my personal flavor scale.

Gina, could you be more descriptive of the flavor?  Berry, Plum, Rich, figgy, juicy, dry, honey drop?  And is it a dwarf type or large tree?

Just trying to decide where on this acreage to put LSU Scott's black.  If the flavor is that good, I like to put it somewhere with easy access, but if it wants to grow huge, it needs to go where it won't block the view...... Such a dilemma :-))

I have a small LSU SB, currently in a 3 gallon.  I got it last year and up potted from 1 gallon to 3 gallon in April.  It grew very little above ground last year, but produced about 8 tasty figs.  The roots are coming out the bottom and the TOP of the pot, so I think it wants more room for roots.  I will be up potting to 5 gallon bucket before it breaks dormancy.

I'm sorry, I really can't describe the flavor. I've never been very good doing that yet. My rankings are mostly 'blah' 'good' 'OMG, that's excellent!'  It's also been months since eating one. I don't recall it being particularly juicy. Nor do I remember a honey drop.

I don't know it's final size either. It's not that old and it's in a 5 gallon pot. My goal is to keep my keeper trees pruned and in pots - so I can keep more figs.

Wish i could help out with the flavor, but the only one i tried was from the LSU Burden center and the beetles had gotten to it first...so it wasn't very good... I just had started two cuttings so I had an extra one...
