Congrats CajunB. I like the description "loaded". The skin looks smooth. Hope it pass the
taste & split test. Don't forget to up-date with yummie pic's.

@ Gene -- does your cajun gold has any resemblence to CajunB LSU Wht Honey ?

Paully I'll be driving over to see it in person as soon as I get Linda a little more on her feet. My Cajun Gold puts its figs out in clusters as in the following picture. Mine is "loaded" also.

Gene, it does have some resemblance. Man, I like what I see. Wonder whether breba
production is as good as main crop. Credit to LSU for doing an excellent job.

You got it Tim. Since after trying for 3 years to find it's proper name I've given up. There is the possibility it's related to the LSU Gold or may be a sport of LSU Gold thus I've named it Cajun Gold. There is a great possibility that Lowes got the tree from Becnel's nursery in Belle Chase La. So in propagating cuttings from LSU Gold they might have started a sport of it without knowing it. I also understand that Becnels received trees or cuttings from LSU or Dr. O'Rourke many years ago to propagate and explore. Thus it could be a sibling of LSU Gold.

By the way does yours have any figs on it this year?

Brian and Gene, nice photos and thank you for posting them. I have been always partial to LSU variants. They have proven to be better producers, growers and much better tasting than some other exotic variants from Europe. In concur with Paul's statement- excellent job by LSU and Dr. O' Rourke.

Gene,
Cajun Gold is growing strong here as well (thanks again). The brief lesson about its history is also timely. I should taste fruits, albeit from a young tree, this season.

JD I'm glad to hear that as others and myself have had trouble starting cuttings this year. I will be doing a few air layers for a few friend that I owe. I thought I'd have about 20 small trees from cuttings this year but its not to be.

Brian - Nice!!
Gene - Nice!!

It truly amazes me how much LSU contributed to our little world, too bad no one picked up the programs.

Hope to see you guys in August.

Has anyone ever heard of an LSU white fig? A couple we know has a great big fig tree that grows beside their house they bought it over 30 years ago and they say it is an lsu white fig. That is what the tag said anyways. I have only seen the lsu gold and purple before and they said that the skin is purple and the flesh is pinkish. It is a good bearing tree and grows quite fast and the figs get about 1" in diameter and are very sweet. They bought it when they lived in Louisiana. I took some cuttings from it and would really like to identify it. I might have to wait for the figs. LOL

Welcome to the forum Loretta, it is probably an LSU White Honey with Honey omitted or LSU Gold mislabeled.

If the skin is purple it's not a white or gold anything, no matter what the label said.  When there's ripe fruit show us the eye, the inside & outside of the fruit and a few representative leaves and then the experts can give you their opinions.
