Lucky delivery guy!

Ordered Chines delivery tonight. I moved all my potted figs under the shelter of our front door patio because we have been getting pounded with rain the last few days. A very nice young man delivered our food and had to wade through all my figs to get to the front door. He asked if all these were different fig plants and said he just helped a friend plant 2 fig trees this week. So I have him one of my unknown peach figs and a $5 dollar tip. He was stoked!!!!!;)

Good story. Seems like more people are wanting to grow figs.

Nicely done Rob!

That was very generous of you. I'm sure he was elated!

I have found that many people around here become very interested when you mention growing figs, but they had just never thought about it before. Almost anyone you talk to here in Central Arkansas remembers eating figs or fig preserves at their grandmother's house. So fig growing is a legacy here, but one which is being lost. It seems that "landscaping" has become the default way American's think about their yards. Many people seems surprised to learn that they could grow something "exotic" like a fig in their yard with very little effort.

That's why I plan to start cuttings each spring and then give them to church friends (and others) each fall. I enjoy watching people become more connected with the soil because I know that watching things grow often helps people disconnect from a hyper-busy life and enjoy God's creation. Besides, one can never have too many friends ;-)

Can you tell me more about this "peach" fig?

He was very happy and it does feel good to give. Our neighbor saw all my plants today and couldn't help but to ask about them so she will be getting a small but vigorous Atreano to plant in her yard tomorrow.

I don't have much info on this "peach flavored fig" other than it was my old neighbors tree and I recently found out she bought it from a local nursery that it known for selling hard to find exotic plants. That being said all the figs I've seen there were not exotic but some may be considered hard to find but not really boutique type figs I guess you could say. I've seen Italian Black, Tiger (not sure if it's Panche or LSU Tiger), Texas Ever Bearing, LSU Purple, Brown Turkey, Celeste and a few others I can't seem to recall but know telling what she bought 7-8 years ago. They might have had a totally different line up. All I know is my family ate several figs in Oct that had a peach/apricot flavor. My self and several others are growing them out so maybe someone can nail it down in the next few seasons.
