Lyndurst White- Out in the cold hard like a golf ball

This Lyndhurst white fig plant was covered in a plastic bag for more than one month for ripening with trapped heat with more than a dozen good size figs on the plant. No sign of ripening. Then I removed the bag in mid-October because then there was no heat to trap. It has been through 23F a few nights over the last couple of weeks. The leaves dropped a week ago but the figs are still fresh green hard. This is the last plant with the 7-gallon pot half-buried in ground needing to be dug out.

We have a neighbour of Italian origin a few houses down the street. A young relative visiting them stopped by and said 'what a shame such nice size figs going to waste'. I told him it is a common occurrence in cold places like Ottawa. He said he is not into growing figs (yet) but I gave him a small Celeste plant anyway and told him to start early in life and keep it in cold place during winter. He said his house has a crawl space that is cold. I hope this starting plant makes him another enthusiast in Ottawa which is called the coldest capital in the world (colder than Kremlin).

Ottawan ,
poor plant needs a rest go dig it up after you made it freeze its............ off.
Mine been at rest for several weeks , the elders dropped there leaves but the young ones refused so i forced em .

Dieseler, yes they will be dug out tomorrow
Today it reminded me of:
"FIVE LITTLE FIGLETS STAYING ON THE BRANCH"

Well, only three families with small children from the neighborhood showed up for trick or treat because of the cold and winds, or stayed home probably as precaution against the swine flu, or that just the tradition of going door to door is being replaced by community functions for Halloween get together.

Ottawan, same here with the trick or treaters. Not even 1(except the grandkids, of course). All the churches, the malls, etc. all have festivals now. I admire you guys growing figs in such cold climates. Have a great Fall!

Same here with the trick or treaters answered door 7 times at the most.
I went out and bought more candy the other day thinking maybe this year more will come out than previous years  but it was the same hardly anyone.
One teen came with his 2 friends wearing street clothes and he had on a hooded sweatshirt backwards. In other words the hood itself backwards covered his face, me like a smarty pulled it off his head and then gave him the candy. My wife said what did you do that for and i said cause i wanted to see what he looked like!
Fig plants are fast asleep.
