That's a beautiful sight. How long from start to finish?

BLB  , i was dating my airlayers for a while and just stopped - no need really. .
Usually 4-6 weeks they get nice roots that grab the soil in bottle and come out in one nice piece.
It can vary some with the type of plant and of course size of bottle .

Thanks Martin, are you using anything special for your medium? I airlayered a couple figs and waited about a month and a half, but did not get the roots that you have consistently been able to generate. so I am thinking you are using a different medium or doing something that I am not.

Started useing this as mixture for everything.
Not because some stuff is organic price was in my ballpark.

Where were you able to find the larger perlite?  I'm only able to find the small perlite that HomeDepot carries.

Martin, do you mix those ingredients together? What ratio?

Martin-you said you stopped dating your airlayers.
I am sorry to hear that were you just not getting along anymore?
Sorry I just couldn't resist

TMC i will shoot you a PM after i find the link i have it stored on computer.

Hi BLB - UM i really could not say , i did use 3 -40 pound bags each of the organic stuff and that peat and perlite.
I mix on garage floor and put into the 10 cubic foot tractor card to haul it to yard then i shovel into some large containers to use as needed.

Hi Jim ,
that was a good one ! I like your sense of humor.   ; )

Thanks Martin I get the general idea. I think perhaps I did not pay enough attention to proper girdling rather than the soil mix being the issue. I was successsful in getting the air layers to root, but no where near the root mass you have and after reviewing my procedure, I think the giirdling is the real issue, I really just scratched the bark, didn't do a good job there.

BLB not sure if its good thing or bad thing but mine never wear a girdle.

No really on serious note i don't touch the bark in anyway except with soil and water.

Well now I am befuddled. Thought I had the answer, I guess I just have to rub shoulders with you in hopes some of the magic rubs off.

Interesting. I've been girdling mine, but maybe it's totally unnecessary. I wonder if one way might produce roots faster than the other? It might be worth experimenting with with both methods to see if either has any advantage over the other.
