Here is small Madeira fig that will not ripen this season.

Whats at the base of fig is part of openeing fig came out of, all others will be start of branches, down lower the dark spot is dirt i use to stop the latex from dripping down the leaves of trunk when i cut off a little fig forming. I know it maybe for some out of the norm but  after i do any pruning i always  pinch some dirt from top of bucket to seal the cut thats just me.

Martin  when my uncle gave me my cuttings he did the same thing with dirt I asked and he said it was to seal and prevent infection My translating as we were speaking Italian well he was and I in broken Sicilian dialect mixed English
