Main crop and breba in tropical climate.

Growing fig in tropical area is difficult, due to the rain and mold.

But when fig tree is ready to give fruit, whey are always fruiting.

No season of produce fruit(flowers). So we do not know "main crop and breba crop"

Or whey have those crop?

Some good varieties to have in the tropics are LSU Tiger, LSU O'Rourke, LSU Champagne, Dark Portuguese
or any close eye varieties. The close eye varieties holds up better to rain & molds. The mentioned LSU varieties
were designed to replace Celeste. Fully agree that rain is a huge problem growing figs as rain makes them split or
rupture badly or molds set in or makes them tasteless. The larger eye for some varieties is a problem with insects.
Unfortunately many of us growing figs ends up catching the fig fever with many varieties that are not suitable for
our zones. Another challenge in the tropics is related to the high speed the fig tree grows. In ground trees gets huge
in no time. With pot culture, frequent re-potting is needed to over come root bounding & to maintain productivity.

You can tell the difference between what is a breba and a main crop fig by location of the fig on its leaf axil. If it is
above the axil, it is a main crop.

But do figs ever produce breba in the tropics?

Didn't know that, thanks for the tip!

I learn something new almost every day here.

Thanks Paully, I admit that I am another member that did not know the different location of the two.

I did not see any breba in tropical climate, it is probably the figs grow without dormant season.
