Main crop Chiappetta Unk. pic.

Here are some pictures of the main crop Chiappetta unk. I know a bunch of you that have this fig have wanted to see the main crop. I also added a picture for Pete. You can guess which one it is.
The fig was excellent in taste. If you like a fig that tastes like a melon. My wife actually said it tasted like Cantaloupe.
Jon is calling this fig Cosenza if anybody is interested.
There are some pictures of the leaves. So does anybody know what this fig might be?

art, a wonderful looking fig there. can't wait to taste one :)

Thanks again for sharing this one Art, I am stoked. I only have one plant but it is looking solid and already planted out in a prime time spot. Can you tell me if it is precocious (produces a few figs in the first year or two from cuttings)?

Brent, I've found it puts out figs quicker than any of my others. Is your plant showing signs of FMV?
I have a couple plants that are really clean and a few that are spotty like the one in the picture.

Art,

Mine looks pretty clean and has a few figs. I can't wait. The anticipation overwhelms me . . . .

I gave one to my nephew and one to a fellow named Cosentino, which,as it happens,  is a little village close to Cosenza.

    Thanks for the jpgs.

Great pics Art ! I'm really excited about this fig . I love that it tastes like cantaloupe ! My tree is clean , in case your wondering.

Looks great, can't wait!  Thanks for sharing cuttings and photos.

Dale, Glad to hear it's getting around. Let me know if they get ripe for you.

Patte, Good to hear your plant looks good. My son loves the Chiappetta. It's nice and sweet.

Nice size too . My grandkids will love it especially if it tastes of melon and is that sweet ! Thanks for posting this .

That is most likely all rust Art. It makes leaves mottled when they become infected while they are still young and soft. It is a new topic and was started here.

Art,

Nice looking fig ! It must be delicious...

Nice pics Art!  We all owe you thanks for bringing this fig into the community.  My tree does show the mottling.  It has a couple of main crop figs on it, though I'll be surprised if they ripen since the fruit were set late this year.  The tree is still small, just 2nd year.  But I'm looking forward to it.  Your reports on this one sound irresistible.  Plus knowing the whole history... it's one of my favorite trees despite not having tasted it yet.  Thanks again.

p.s.  not a bad looking cap and bottle, either.  :-)

Art, Hoping I will be able to taste mine this year. Thanks

Ripening in Pennsylvania in July?
Hints of cantaloupe?
Added to the wish list!

Art--good to see that figs are actually ripening in the Pittsburgh area this year. I was starting to wonder.

Hi Art,
The plant you sent me a short time ago is doing great! Thanks for posting a picture of the fruit and how it tastes. Looking forward to savoring some in the near future for sentimental reasons.

I may have posted this before, if so, sorry for the repetition, but I was born maybe 10 miles from San Vincenzo. We were situated in the countryside in a valley and I can still remember the occasional faint sounds of music from the San Vincenzo radios lilting down to us on very still warm summer nights.

Btw, Cosentino literally means a person from Cosenza.

i wonder how do figs and beer go together?

looks like a great fig...

Art,is the main crop riping now?The one you send me doing great.Ciao,
Giuseppe

Giuseppe, That one came from no where. All the other main crop will be at least another month.
Now I did cheat a little. I gave this one an early start under lights. But I am still surprised at the early fig.
I planted that one in ground in May.

Matt, We should meet up some time. I will give you one of the Chiappetta unk.

Elin, That was a dark lager and they didn't go so well.

Bugs, The other plants that I gave you looked more advanced than mine.

Oh.. By the way, feel free to post pictures of your trees. I'd like to see how they are growing in the warmer areas. I know I've sent them all across the states.

Here's mine ,not in a warmer area , but thought I'd post a pic . With such a cold spring I don't know if those baby figs will have time to ripen this year. I might just leave one on and not take too much energy from the young tree.

Pattee, Thanks for posting your pictures. It looks well taken care of.

Here it is Art 10 days ago
