main crop question and pinching pic.

Okay I have a unknown red variety of fig from local Italian family and it has main crop figs emerging. The main crop is about the size of a walnut and there appears to be another embryo at the base of the fig is this common???  This is my first tree with main crop figs and I am still learning. Also on the second tree you can get a good idea on pinching results I pinched this tree to form branches to keep it small and bush shape as it will remain a container fig. Also for reference I used a nickel as I spent all my quarters on figs...HAHA

Fig trees can produce two figs at one node. It isn't common, but seems to be a response to some environmental and weather factors, which I am not sure have been identified. Usually when it occurs, the two figs appear at about the same time - not so far apart in time.

Well, I had read sometimes ago that some varieties could have two main crops. Could it be the case here being so far apart in appearance, I can't say for sure.

we will see, possible as the second embryo appeared after I pinched out the top to force branching.

Is not common, but it is hapen sometimes

Hi Herman2
Keep an eye on the plant i gave you the last time i visited.
It is from the same tree that this plant is from..
Have a great day

My Bronze Paradiso produces twins every season 2 figs per node on allot of different branches.

Nelson twins I am assuming would be two embryos at the same stage of growth..This is one about three weeks ahead of the other..We will see and I will continue to photograph....

Northeastnewbie yes the bronze paradiso has two embryos per leaf node usually and allot of times both will produce figs on the same node at the same time and both grow and ripen. last season at one point I counted 12 different sets of twins all growing at the same time.

I think it`s gonna be another shot instead of figlet.

The heat wave has been wonderful for my tomatoes & figs.  So far I have two pairs of twins on my second year tree. It is weird, but I also have two branches that have only one fig or no figs on the branch. Go figure.
