Finally have one that appeared to have ripened to the max as you can see by the pics. However, the inside was still firm and the taste was very unusual. So unusual that my wife and I can not describe it. It was not very sweet and left an undesirable after taste. We will see if it improves over time. About a 5. I was able to try a second one of this variety and it was much better than the first. Although we still can not describe the taste. It does have lite tones of berry but the over riding flavor is something in a fine wine like a Cabernet Sauvignon. About a 7 on this one.
Is yours a strong grower Mike?Mine after 2+ yrs never was vigorous , quite the opposite and just recently died. I never got any figs on it.Thanks for posting the pics. I hope yours does a lot better for you.
Pattee, no it is a very slow grower and when it reached about two feet tall I attempted an airlayer and the airlayer died.My tree has not put on any new leaves since the original spring leaves. It does have three more figs so we shall see.
Mike, I'd give the looks of the fig a 10.
Art, so would I but it really surprised me from the looks to the taste.
I wanted to correct myself , I did get one fig that did ripen last year, but was not memorable in flavor . It was still a young tree though.Seems to be a tempermental variety? Anyone have any other experience with it?
Have you had too much rain? Did it sour? It looks so beautiful. Sorry the flavor disappointed. Suzi
Had some rain but it was mostly before this one started ripening. Did not sour.I would imagine the tree itself needs to mature more.
A 5 is not that impressive, and you are right, is does look better. I will wait for next year's report before I would even consider this as list worthy. Thanks.
