Maltese Beauty

I have some IDs. Can I count IDs' total post numbers?

Arrrg! Why did I have to read forever before joining and posting. Dang my desire to have an idea of what I may be talking about before I say or write something. I do know how to root cuttings from tender plants using 1" cubes, heat mat, and humidty dome if that helps (very successful with house plants).

I would love to try it.

George,

Does being 2nd runner up for finding the name for this fig work?

This thought just registered my mind. "George your actually allowing members to PM you?" lol. Normally when ANYONE tries, I would imagine it reads something like this "This member does not accept private messages".

Congratulations to the lucky six

Should be a 100 tree minimum ; )

Very tempting offer!

Man, I take a few days away from the internet to drive a moving truck and look what I miss! Maybe you can take pity on me and add me to the list. but even if not, thanks for the wonderful offer!

Both my Maltese Beauty and Maltese Falcon cuttings have rooted and are leafing out!  I had one cutting each!  Now my big job is to keep them alive in their little greenhouse cups.  There are roots everywhere after only 2.5 weeks!!

Suzi

Oh wow, good on you, Suzi!  In three years, you'll be able to trade for anything!

alright.. i don't know about maltese falcon, but i want maltese beauty. i'll have to work on this.

Here is what I know about the Maltese Beauty:  Take Black Madeira, Ronde de Bordeaux, Black Mission, Negronne, and mix them together you get a flavor close to this fig. Has a Closed Eye.

Suzi

well suzi, that's what i read. i have Black Madeira, Rdb, and VdB. don't have black mission. i know what VdB taste like. i only heard about Black Madeir and RdB, but will be tasting them next year. so i can just imagine what Maltese Beauty will be like if half what i have heard about BM and RdB is true.

Maltese Beauty being fairly new, i'm sure it will be hard time trying to get some cuttings.

I pray my living cuttings will survive!  They show multiple roots in their plastic cups!  But I kinda feel like the weight of the world is on my little shoulders!  Doing my best!!

Suzi

Still, my main concern is for those on the East coast, and how JD and I can help.

Looks delicious. I love how giving people our on this forum. Maybe one day I will have earned a place here and can benefit for everyone's
generosity . Until then thanks for the pics.

I want to see more photos of Black Beauty from this year.  Since several folks posted in this thread who had plants or cuttings started, I'm hoping to get an update from you all.  If you want to send me a fig to sample, that would be fine also, lol.

Me too, I am in line for that fig! Lol

on the top of my "next" fig list. still new enough, i'm willing to wait :)

Wow,,, GREAT looking fig.  some day,,

Wow is right ! Someday too ......

It really is part of what makes growing these plants so rewarding....the want, the hunt, the finding of those varieties not already in possession.  Then you have the tension of will it or won't it root and grow...the great joy if it does and the sadness if it does not but if not the determination to start all over.

One up for sale right now on eBay:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Maltese-Beauty-Fig-Tree-/231025838187?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35ca36886b

Dang, these are not cheap...already over 200 bucks!

patience is the key to getting what you want.. tho, it will take awhile. to get the fig tree to grow and share the cuttings, it takes anywhere from 2-4 yrs.

As my beard grows longer, my patience grows shorter.

I absolutely don't ask this in a derogatory tone but, what qualifies Maltese Beauty to have a name without "unknown" in the name?  I just read above that Maltese Beauty (I WANT, I WANT, I WANT !!!) is an excellent new fig and I see it selling for beaucoup $$$$.   How does a new fig attain a "known" status?
Thanks , Soni
