Good day, went out EARLY this AM to water a few trees and to my surprise I found 2 GM-5s completely ripe! I had forgotten about these due to the long hours in the office. Some of my trees were at their lowest peak needing water so as I started watering, I saw this bad boy and his brother. The ants got his brother but not this one! I was completely ripe and started to crack. I picked it, weighed it and ate it. Gave half to the wife and she was amazed! This fig was excellent! On a scale of 0 to 10, a high 10! Not bad for a small tree. Here are the pics! HOW BOUT THOSE FIGS!!!!!!!!!
A proven fig. Another excellent one at least in my zone is the Bellone fig -- excellent.
Why do you call it GM-5?
Very nice Dennis. Can't wait for mine to get there!GM are initials of man that discovered and introduced this wonderful fig. 5 is his own numbering system.
great way to start the morning
How did the Gm5 get another name? Who named it?Just curious.ThanksDoug
GM introduced it from Malta, his home country, as an unknown, then he later named it. GM is a forum member here.
Very nice, Dennis! That looks perfect.
Initially George gave it a numbered name GM5. Later on he posted on the forum that he is naming it Maltese Falcon. The same goes for GM1 and Maltese Beauty -- all excellent figs. Thanks to Georgefor finding these varieties and introducing them.
GM 155 is Maltese Beauty.
Btw. Great pics Dennis!
