MANTS Update

Last week I attended the MANTS show in Baltimore. For the 99% of you who don't know, it's a trade show for nursery growers to display what they have to buyers like me. I'm the purchaser for a large landscape company. Anyway... My wife accused me of wanting to go to only look for figs. I assured her that she was right! There were a few vendors who sold figs but Eastern Shore Nursery of Virginia stood out. They do an outstanding job of growing all kinds of fruit trees including 9 kinds of figs. They are the usual suspects but great for Newbies. Tey are a wholesale to the trade only company, but I know many Agway Markets sell them in my area of NJ. You can find all of their fruit products under the name "Hollybrook Orchards". I've paid about $30 each for 2 of their figs I bought from Agway. Now is the time to ask your local nursery to bring some in for you. Happy Figging!!!

I want that painting on my wall!

Hi Aaron, I've bought a few varieties from local nurseries on LI that were grown by Hollybrook. Plants were always healthy and of good size .

soni that is what i was thinking.make you wont to pick it.

I just joined to share with you ADelmanto since you're not too far from me in SE Pennsylvania. Quality Greenhouses out of Dillsburg, PA (near Gettysburg) is selling, what they have IDed as, Olympian, Black Mission, Brown Turkey, Lattarula, and Magnolia. I got some BT last year, grew well and seem to have made it overwintering.

They are wholesale only, but just wanted to put that out there if you ever buy from them! I have reserved several trays of each for the nursery I work at.

Well welcome! Yes I do buy from them. They are about 2.5hrs from me but do a great job with 3 gallon perennials. I don't have Olympian. Do you collect figs yourself or just for the nursery? Were you at MANTS?

Looking at their catalog Olympian and Lattarula are new this year.

I'm just starting out on both accounts, I've got 1 BT in the ground at home and some cuttings from here and there rooting in the house. My nursery (we're a retail Garden Center, really) has carried one or two each year but I think, as this forum shows, there is demand for more so I'm expanding our offerings there.  And it makes it easier for me to get stuff for myself, so it's a win-win.

I didn't get to MANTS this year, newborn at home means I don't get out for more than my regular work hours.

Does your garden center ship?  I'd buy an Olympian. I was thinking of getting a tray from Agri-Starts and selling most of them but I'd rather get just one  :)

Not really, no. I'd offer to send you one myself, but I'm a little doubtful of my packing and shipping a non-dormant plant (probably wouldn't have them in til April or May). Perhaps next winter I can get some cuttings to you, I'm planning on trying Olympian out in ground at home.

I saw those at Agristarts. If you decide to get them I'd be in for a few.
