--- Marabout C. Smyrnay and Marabout

Is it the same fig or different?

They're listed as different accessions at USDA Davis and the leaves shown on Encanto's variety index look considerably different.

Also, see post #11 at http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4759192

I have argued that the DNA tests are not a basis for identifying matches because of the limited number of SSRs analyzed but believe it should identify differences.

Ah, I see, thanks! Which one do you prefer if you have both? Are they both a Smyrna type?

I only have the Marabout C. Smyrna.  I was growing it for about five years but never had fruit until last year when I placed some caprifig (fruits) amonst the branches around early July.  It then produced fruit for me into the fall.  I brought maybe a dozen fruits of it or more to Jon's Fig Fiesta and you ate some, I'm sure.  You can see photos of some of my fruit in a current eBay auction. :)

Yes, I remember it, they were pretty big and tasty figs.
At that time I didnt care about the details, now I do.

Do you have a Zidi? Does it also need the caprifigs in a close proximity or just some in the neighborhood is enough?

I have a small Zidi, may fruit this year.  If it does, I will probably bag a couple of fruit to prevent caprification to see if they persist.

There is a large caprifig tree about 1,500 away (down/cross prevailing wind in June/July) from my original fig tree plantings which included my Marabout C. Smyrna.  That apparently is too far for the wasp to fly in my conditions or they are just lazy.

There is one smaller caprifig tree about half the distance but it only had a few fruits and I found no wasps inhabiting those fruits last year.  Both of these trees are on my neighbor's property which I had rented for several years but he is farming it now (farm changed hands two years ago) and he may eventually get rid of those trees but I've asked him to delay any removal and he's got more important things to do for now.
