Marking fig trees

I have had people send me cuttings with what looks like a white marker, any idea what  markers are and where top get them. Rex.

I've been wondering the same thing, thanks for asking! - John

Walmart here usually carries one version called Painters , made by Elmers of glue fame.
I find the fine line version more useful than the medium tip and white marks the best for me rahter than another color.

That is one marker that works , I am sure there are others.

Whatever you do, it's important to tag your figs.  After you get about 5 varieties, things can get really confusing!  I might spring for a paint marker to back up my embossed aluminum can tags.

Just spent my Ebay bucks on eye shadow.  Shoot!!

Craft stores or Staples may have them also. I have to get one too.

A silver sharpie marker works well, too.

I still have to try what Kerry suggested for fine marking.

For writing on medium or fat plant trunks, I use white tire marker but they are not economical.

BTW, when I read this thread title I immediately thought of my dog.

I have gotten very tired of my markers fading over time. So - I now use paint markers. They come in white. I use black and red for labels. I wish I'd ordered white but will next time. I got mine from Blick art materials. They are Deco paint markers. They come in broad, fine and extra fine in many colors. I paid a little over 3 bucks per but the shipping was 10 bucks so I ended up paying $4.50 per. I'd pay that again in a New York minute as sharpies fade and paint markers do not.

btw - you can also buy a pen that has paint remover to "erase" mistakes. It's called a "remover". yup.

China markers - you can get them online or at Home Depot.  About 3 for $2.   You can also you crayons.  I also bought a white Garden marker for $1 at the Japanese dollar store.

Be aware, the markers UC Davis sends FADE!  FAST!  I have wine grapes that are lush and gorgeous, but no clue what they are.  I have my order, so I know what they might be, but I did learn my lesson about 3 years ago.

Find an old piece of gutter laying around or go to Lowes and check their cull barrel.  Sometimes you can find a 4 or 6 foot section of new gutter there that someone had cut b/c the long one could not fit inside their car or truck.  Lowes will sell it to you for a dollar.  Then take sissors or tin snips and cut it to the size you want.  Using an engraver (5 bucks at Harbour Frieght) you can etch what you want on the tag.  I'm starting to make 2 for each plant.  Why?   b/c the squirrels love to remove mine if they are not place on well.  I use zip ties to secure mine on.  I place one on the plant and one in the dirt.  I also use alumunim plant tags from eBay in a pinch.  I like the paint stick idea but never used them.
