Marseilles vs black is much hardier than other cultivars!!!!!

This post is in response of Bass S,statement that all fig cultivars are the same as hardy.
I beg to differ based on my Fig reaserch trials, going on for several years now.
This year we had a cold winter and for the first time my outside water spigot valve ,that is used for the water hose, froze and cracked.
So today i wanted to use it and found out is splitted open, from last winter.
This water valve come trough the wall, from utility room, and suppose to be warm enough not to get damged.
It is the first time since i moved here in 1993.
My point is that many inground figs froze to soil line, this winter with protection, but :
This Marseilles vs black,in front of the House on North side ,did not.
Not protected ever, because of the city regulations.

It was taller this Spring,but I collected all longer branches,and I sold them on Ebay,to lucky,Auction,winners,total,about 15 cuttings.I am sure,they will be pleased,with it's hardiness,on the east coast.

Yet it is just fine and leafing out ok.
That prove that not all cultivars are the same hardy.
Here is a today picture:

Herman,
My post was mainly in response to hardy chicago. Based on my experience and from other hardy chicago trees I've seen it dies to the ground, and it's not hardy but still sprouts and may bear figs the same year. I did say that all figs are about the same cold hardiness. I respect your observations, and this tree sure looks like it's hardy in the picture.
Do you have any plants or cuttings left for me? I would love to replace some of the trees that were killed by mice.

Hmm, very interesting.

Herman, I might add that the three trunks look at least 4-6 years old. It might be the reason for your BM's ability to weather the cold. The maturity of the wood is very important.

To Loslunas :Good Observation:The tree was 2 years in the pot, before was planted in that spot 2 years ago.
So yes total life is over 4 years, but yet,my Black Ischia, and my Beal was 5 years old and is almost Totally dead, and just now I noticed one live bud on each ,at the soil level.
So all in all,not all figs are hardy the same ,just as not all persimmons, grapes,Jujube,Banana, etc, are the same hardy.
They differ.
Best Regards.
H
