MARSEILLES VS BLACK question

I know i am wanting to get  marseilles vs black. what i have read is it is an outsdanding fig that grows well in my area. dark colord with redish pulp. thats about all i know.

I want to know who gets a harvest and at what zone.

and anything anyone else may wish to add for or agenst growing this fig from thier own experience.
this has been a top cultivor on my wish list and i relized i didnt know much about it. so i am second guessing if i should get it to add to my collection. i can grow only about 15 kinds and slots are filling up fast. 3 of each kind.

so please chime in and help a guy out.

It seems to be a bit weird about viruses and fruit scarring. It is productive, but ...

I like the flavor.

It has been very good for me and I would choose it over Sal's EL in terms of overall flavor.

this is my list so far of figs i am keeping for my collection

celeste  (have might get rid of)
Hardy chicago (Have) and rooting
Purple Magnolia (Have)
Desert king (have)
Brown Turkey (Have might get rid of)
Green Ischia (ROOTING)
Osborn Prolific (Rooting)
Sals C (getting some)
Italian honey (getting some)
VdB (getting some)
MvsB (working on) will have soon
RdB
Sumaki
green grek
Noir de Caromb

I am hoping this collection with a few added or taken out will do serve me well in zone 6 close to zone 7. any thoughts on it/

For a zone 6b; after they have become mature, and planted in a protected location: Hardy Hartford, Hardy Chicago, Danny's Delight, Sal's EL, Blue Celeste, Sweet George, and Bayernfeige Violetta, and a few more. Check the old post on F4F.

For zone 6a through 5b: Marseilles Black VS, the new gold standard for cold hardiness. LaRadeks' English Brown Turkey, has endured lows of minus 18 degrees F. Hanc's English Brown Turkey, has been said it has been grown as far north as 4b, with winter protection.

But, keep in mind that  fig trees cannot be grown like an apple or pear tree in these zones. They have to be protected the first 3 to 7 years, while the wood is becoming cold hardy.

But, if you want a trouble free fig for your zone, Marseilles Black VS is excellent.
