Martin's Unknow

This morning I picked a perfectly ripe and tasty Martin's Unknown. It's nice to be able to allow a fig to ripen to perfection without the worry of a bird pecking it. The fig was just sweet enough to make it refreshing, not very juicy but moist enough to allow it to be mashed by your tongue and slowly releasing it goodness and flavor that ended with a mystery taste. After eating the second half I realized what the taste was, it was peachy and it was great.

Nice looking fig Gene. It's nice when they ripen like that.

I'm glad you liked it but I would have left it even longer.  It's personal preference of course but the white part turns translucent if you leave it longer.

Bob, I touched it to feel for ripeness and it fell into my hand. There are many more on the tree and if the weather holds out I should get a chance to taste a bunch.

Great looking fig there Gene! I know that one fell off ,but's always a risk leaving them a day or two longer to get that peak ripeness unless you use the organza bags as covering.

Looks beautiful Gene! Thanks for sharing.

It sure does look like my Lsu Thibodeaux when ripe. Looks good Gene.

Thanks all, Ryan I'll have to wait until next year to do a comparison.

Wonderful description of a "fig experience." I hope to have several of those when I get my first figs this year. If the 75 day rule holds, I should get my first Italian black in about 2 more weeks. I can't wait!

Good luck Gene.
