Matta

This one did not have any splitting problem due to rain. It has a closed eye. The eye has a drop of honey when fully ripe. It has a honey cantaloupe type flavor.
A Syrian man named Matta brought me cuttings I believe from Syria to propagate for him. He told me it's an excellent fig but didn't give me any info. Once the tree rooted I tried to contact him, but he passed away. I named it after him. This is the second year it bears. It seems very productive and fairly early, but I have mine in a container.

I like the way you put it across Dan.

Bass, you and I need to meet along with others to have a fig exchange. I love all the middle eastern varieties! The matta fig looks excellent.

Bass , gotta hand it to ya another light colored fig from the mideast. Look forward to seeing that Ronde in future as i dont think mine will ripeing in time as our Canadien friends have something in store for my area i think later on weather wise.

Jose, i emailed you as you requested on GW but no reply.
Now its your turn  ; )

Is this tree in a container or in ground

Bass Thanks for telling me this I will be sure not to give you any of my cuttings to root, otherwise i may drop dead before they root LoL. Of course, just kidding.
Very nice fig, are you going to have some cuttings for sale of this variety.

It's nice to hear the history behind the figs!  This one looks very fat and juicy, and I love how you described the actual flavor, Bass!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm trying to get this variety back into my collection. I introduced it a few years ago, but 2 years ago I lost it due to the cold as I didn't protect it, and wasn't planted in a good spot.
Anyone has this variety?

Bump! Just wondering if anyone is still growing this variety?

Me. I have it
