Maybe A Dual

I know everyone has different sweet taste and fig taste preferences, just wondering if anyone has tasted both the Smith fig and the Col de dama blanc. Wondering if I should get a col de dema blanc if its a tie between the two. I do have a Smith fig and its very good, of course its has been knocked to the ground this year from the cold, but it should bounce back though.

Hi Carl. I have both but have tasted only a few from each. Col de Dama Blanc was the hands-down winner for my taste preferences. But both trees are very young, and CDDB is a slow grower. I picked the cuttings I started from a friend's mother tree. It was in ground for about 10 years. It was barely taller than I am, almost stunted (the tree, not me) - but then it is a cutting source for a popular fig cutting seller so it regularly is trimmed. Her other fig trees planted at the same time as the CDDB towered above it. They all were planted at the same time.

Carl,
You can't compare the two and grow one or the other. You NEED them both !!

I have not tasted the Smith fig yet. When it comes to flavor, Col de Dame Blanc remains one of my top five figs for two years in a row. I would compare the taste to sweet strawberry jam, but this one is totally natural no sugar added!

Smith is richer in flavor than, CdDB.  Both are excellent figs.

I really need to up-pot my Smith and give it a fair chance to show it's best.

So much to do, so little time.

Thanks to everyone. Well back to the old drawing board, guess I'll have to try again n again to get a col de dema to root I'll get there one day. Thanks again for all the comments.

Carl
