maybe a stupid question

hi
i am growing in pots and have extra solar pool cover -the bubble type.
i tought it could help lessen evaporation loss of water.
the stupid question is:
if i mulch or cover the top of the pot using a solar pool cover the surface will get very hot probably and "boil the surface".

question is will it help to diperese the roots so that they go search for food in lower levels?

no one is replying so for further note till someone picks the 1st post

I wouldn't recommend it.  Growing in pots already subjects the root system to more temperature fluctuation and higher temps than they would experience in the ground, not to mention other issues.  So if you heat the pot up further it would only exacerbate this issue.  You'll also limit oxygen getting to the roots

Increased plant growth response. Studies have shown that plants grown in solarized soil grows faster and produce yield superior in both quantity and quality. This can be attributed to three reasons. First, major pathogens and pests are controlled which obviously favor better growth of plants. Second, some soluble nutrients like nitrogen (NO3-, NH4+), calcium (Ca++), and magnesium (Mg++) may be increased and made more available to plants in solarized soil. Lastly, some beneficial microorganisms like mycorrhizal fungi, actinomycetes, and good bacteria survive the solarization process and consequently recolonize the soil. In turn, this helps biological control of pathogens and pests, as well as to stimulate plant growth.

Maybe they are referring to a solarized greenhouse not just the actual soil ?
They might also mean if you solarized the soil before using it ?? Not as its actually being used to grow in at the time.

This seems like a report about the benefits of planting following solarization. And as Rob said, pots are different than the ground. You can always add something like pebbles or bark chunks to the top of potting media (assuming we are talking trees and not cuttings).

i guess i will sacrifice a tree as a laboratory rabit.
i will try to document ...
