i'm far from being an expert. i'm still a beginner. only grew figs for 3 yrs. there are about 6-7 different Paradiso's out there.
Paradiso Gene
Paradiso Bronze
Paradiso Bronze Dusan
Paradiso Nero
Paradiso Nero Mario
Paradiso Joe
above are the Paradisos that i'm aware of. Paradios Gene is what I have and i'll possibly have others by next spring. first 5 of them are more or less same from what i understand, but different color figs.
Dusan is one that was brought into Canada from one of the old country. as name indicated, it's was brought into Canada by one of the member named dusan. this fig has characteristic of generating "twin" figs.
Paradiso Nero Mario is one that is in TN, and brought into US by member name Mario from his old town in Italy.
Paradiso Joe is different from all the others. some say it's like Brunswick. spoils easily when rains and different from the others.
other two without the name are from Adriano's in Canada.
i can only comment on Paradiso Gene since it's what i have amd its second year giving me the figs.
the first year, the figs were very late. the eye was tight. the pulps were dark red and had touch of watermelon taste. it wasn't overly sweet, but refreshing and had that warm taste.
the second year, the figs came very early. it had few breba. breba taste were not as good as main crop. it had some sweetness and that was about it. no noticeble other fruit taste.
the main crop has two flush for me in NC. the first flush were amazing. it was best fig i had, but that's not saying much. i haven't taste all that many figs. it had cracks on the skin, but the cracks did not go deeply into the figs. just surface cracks. they were filled with honey when cut open. not overly sweet. had that warm yet very refreshing taste. just wonderful fig. had touch of watermelon taste to it, but not as distinct as late ripen figs of year before. the eye was open, but small and it was blocked with bit of honey.
the second main crop were all ruined. we had large amount of rain this year and some just blew up and others were eaten by wasps, hornet and various other flying insects. eye was wide open and it was big enough for any insect and what not to get in.
if you can find Paradiso Gene, try it. i won't suggest it if your area has large amount of rain fall each year. the figs will suck up water like no tomorrow.
i got this tree from Gene H. from DC who is now in upstate NY and no longer doing fig thing. he found this tree from some neighborhood and supposed to be one of his favorite light fig.
