MBVS

It is a perfect fig for all zones, warm and cold, containers or ground.
The tree stays on a smaller size, very productive, ripens fast.
Tastes awesome like a strawberry jam and doesn't crack.
Highly recommend.
There are quite a few of Mt Etna figs out there but the Marseille Black VS always stands out.

Awesome looking figs Igor!

Are you using organza bags to keep the fruit flies and other insects away? I'm about 30 miles south of you and there are virtually zero figs perfectly ripened as yours are if they are unprotected.

I have no problems with flies, just with the birds and squirrels.
I wrapped the entire tree in bird netting a few times and this keeps it safe.

thanks for posting about the taste. i won't know for another month.
you forgot to say it's a pretty tree.

Very nice, i presume caprified?

Yes, caprified but this is not required since it's a Common type

Igor, do you have any other mt. etnas growing would be interested in seeing how they compare.

Quite so, I have one from a generous member here, too young to fruit...would be interesting if a member could compare the pollinated mbvs to one grown in an organza bag, or something simmilar...i have eaten caprified figs overseas (had no idea what that was back then) and the figs were very, very good...

I do feal fortunate that I live in a "warm" area, so no real complaints...

Pino,
I do have St Rita and Takoma Violet but they are in containers (the MBVS is in ground).
It wouldn't be a fair comparison since the ground figs are always better, bigger and juicier.

This MBVS is having a good crop of figs this season.Unfortunately, there is more rain coming for the next 10 days so the flavor is very bland now and I don't expect the figs to improve. MBVS 1 800.jpg
