MBVS is not so popular fig in Australia yet. I just want to say to fellow fig enthusiasts in here that, this an amazingly sweet tasting fig, that has a very berry like taste. The tree is vigorous and provides plentiful of fig every year. The fig has a thin skin and medium in size. It is a variety that will provides me a lot of figs all the time. What is your opinoon about this variety?

Hmmm... I was just deciding whether to prioritize the up-pot of my MBVS into SIP. I'm running out of space. Your post might have just tipped the scales in favor of the coveted spot. I'll be interested to know what others think of this variety in comparison to the more popularly hyped varieties.
I agree ,it's a very nice fig and a workhorse that produces lots of fruit.
I planted 2 adult Hardy Chicago fig trees in ground last year, It had lots of figs, However, in our weak sun area, Figs are not quick sweet, I will try MBVS, I heard that it is sweeter fig than Hardy Chicago.
I found it to be prolific, and a Mt Etna type like Hardy Chicago. It's a good fig, I have no plans to get rid of it.
This is a must-have fig for its reliability and production, and of course its wonderful flavor.
I just rooted 2 cuttings of this variety. Time to wait....
Best part of this tree is it gives you more and more and every single one of them is yummy.
Put mine in ground last year. It was between that and a Hardy Chicago (highly underrated fig). Its a great growing tasty and productive fig with beautiful foliage.
MBVS stands for: MB = Marseilles Black; VS = initials of person who discovered it.Pity; my good fig-friend Herman is no longer on this F4F ...(I had also initially helped him analyzing it.)
I was eager to try starting this fig, but the two cuttings I'm rooting look sickly and seriously infected. Not sure if I should try to nurse them to health or give up and try to find other cuttings to start over. Anyone out there run into this with their MBVS cuttings? Any advice?
I just bought a set of 5 cuttings from Herman on eBay as my first set from another person did not root well. I think he still has some for sale and price including shipping for 5 cuttings usually runs under $20.
Yes, I was glad to see that herman was selling on eBay again even if he hasn't returned to the forums yet as an active participant. He usually sells some really nice cuttings.... I always bid on his stuff if it is a variety i am interested in...
Thanks, I'll take a look to see if he has more cuttings available there.
It's Marseilles Black- great fig. Beautiful leaves. Tasty fruit
Rather late ripening here for me.
Thanks for the pictures.Hoping for a fig on mine this year.
