MBVS early breba.

Hey all,

Not posted for a while but just wanted to share my first breba of the year, and my first taste of MBVS. Rain forced me to pick it a day or two early but the taste was very nice.

Peace and love

It looks great.
Just wonder that MBVS form breba often? Do u grow them in pot or in ground?

I live at even cooler summer PNW then UK,  I have couple MT Eten varieties with poor sweet results in main crop due to late season.
I like very sweet figs, So far, Desert king is very sweet here, and it seems that Grantham's Royal is even sweeter.

I have Olympian in ground, It does not impress me, I need few more years to try it out.

Yes Ive not had much luck here with main crop, desert king is my favorite fig as it grows really well in ground and seems to handle the winter frost's without protection.

My fig above was wintered in a green house hence why it's early but I'm hoping the main crop will ripen.

How is your fig taste? Are they sweet? or bland?, Does it drop some breba?

I have couple Mt ETna fig trees, Chicago Hardy, Sal EL, Dark Portugal, Cicci Nero, potted or in ground, They dropped all their breba, They have lots of main figs and ripen quickly ( less than 90 days from peat size), I should get half of them, However, it needs to ripen before mid of Sept, After that, They taste bland. I think that Those trees are heat lover, it needs high heat to sweeten up figs, So I might not keep them for long.

My "Desert king" figs ripen now, it has drop of honey under them, extremely sweet, no wonder people grow "Desert king" at low heat cool summer area.

I think that you should get some MBVS main crop this year, Main crop should ripen after 1.5 month to 2 month of breba.
