MBVS-EL??

Hello all,
I'm looking to purchase a MBVS fig tree. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the "Marseilles" fig offered by Edible Landscaping in Virginia. Is it the same as MBVS? What are the characteristics of the plants offered by EL?

If anyone knows of another reliable source for an actual MBVS, please post or email me. Thanks!

Well, what you're looking for is a MBVS, and if I'm understanding that abbreviation correctly, that's Marseilles BLACK VS.  If you're asking about this one from EL, it appears to be a white fig?

So I would say they are not the same.

Thanks Mike. Huge oversight on my part. I have never owned an MBVS but have read of its early, reliability in cold climates. Sounds like a dream and I WANT ONE! Do you know of a reliable source? I'm looking to purchase as I have nothing to trade.

I bought mine off ebay from figrific.

It's a pretty common variety, close to Hardy Chicago from what I understand.  The problem is that cutting season is somewhat over and if you're looking for a well-rooted tree, your shipping window until fall is closing rapidly due to the heat of the summer.

I'd look at this forum's list of trusted sellers and just watch ebay, most of the online nurseries are about done shipping for the spring.

Go to Garden Oy Vey.  They have plenty of Marseilles Black fig tree and they are only 24 bucks all day long.  I have 3 of them and they are the real deal.  Here is the link:  http://www.gardensoyvey.com/store/c162/Figs.html

cheers!

Awesome! Thanks guys! I appreciate the help.
