Meddling kids!!!

I think one neighborhood kid broke my one and only MBVS.  I gave some away and this was looking really nice and green.  I get home to obsess over my plants(figs, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers) and it was broke clean in half.  I can't prove it, but I think the suspect is about 8 years old.  I am now banning all kids from my yard.  Dagnabbit!!!
So I took it and put it in spagnum moss. hoping to root it again..

Aw, man, that sucks.  I hope you can root it again.

That's horrible!  Kids are the worst on new plants.  My kids know better, but others come over to "play" and end up picking the top half of a nice looking tomato plant or breaking a baby pecan tree...  Its heartbreaking to see something you cared for treated that way.

Do I like children?

Yes I do...........

Boiled, broiled, or in a stew

or something like that, from one of those sweet nursery rhymes

I knew this wasn't going to be a good story by the subject line.  : (

Danny, Lol!
I am, however hopelessly optimistic. Perhaps I can root it again. I am on the lookout today (Scooby Doo style). I'm off from work for my birthday and plan to stop any small person coming to view my plants.
Wish me luck.

Smaritza....

Maybe some good will come out of all this.  You could finally wind up having TWO, "MB-VS" trees.

Idea:  Plant a "Brown Turkey" near by to act as a decoy.

Good luck.

Frank

have a few kids around the neighborhood that come to pick my flowers and figs.. when i'm not looking. i don't understand their parents. i have very simple rules with my kids. i watch them 24/7. even if they don't think i'm watching them, they are being watched. and when it comes to going over to other people's yard? i have one rule. don't go to other people's yard. kids are wonderful, and delightful.. as long as their parents are willing to teach them what is right and wrong from the start.

Pete,
I agree.
I'm one of those parents that sits outside and watches. My daughter is nine and she doesn't go into anyone's yard at all. Some of the kids come out with no supervision. I don't get it. I end up watching them so they don't get hurt or in trouble. I scold them and tell they're parents if I see them doing something wrong. So now all kids are banned from my plants..

@Frank,
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Since I'm off today, I'm gonna do some fig hunting. I know there are about 9 trees within walking distance of my house. I asked one owner could I have a piece of his tree and he said yes!!! So whoo hoo for that!

I have a feeling I'll be installing electric fences around each of my trees...

Perhaps when the time comes you can get them kids to taste the figs , when very young we used to eat the figs, peaches etc etc as grandmother would show us her plants and thats where it all began for Anthony and i.
Perhaps they would enjoy them and 1 day you could offer them a small plant if ok with the parents and they could begin
there journey .

My 2 yr old boy has killed several plants. He simply pull the newly planted tree out of ground. if larger tree, he break new branches and take off leaves. The most difficult pest to deal with.

@Dieselar,
I do plan to share figs with the kids when they get ripe. They are interested in how things grow, but it involves touching my plants. I told one little one that next year we will plant some things. She's like okay. So far I've shared tomatoes and cukes and they loved them.

I understand kids will be kids. and even some Adults example - I made plant for neighbors teen child who loved our figs but he neglected it and it died, a retired fella from across the street also used to eat figs from his country before coming here and liked tasting mine so i gave him 4 potted fig plants that were no younger than 3 years old.
He left them out last winter and they all died but he new better than to leave them outdoors in winter.

Perhaps if you can grow some in your yard for them and have there name tags on the individual plants they will really get involved in a good way.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Smaritza!!

@Dieselar, I like that idea. I'll try it. You are right about adults, too. Lol! I gave friends and co workers some nice rooted cuttings. They all gave me the sad face when they died.
@omotm, thanks for the happy birthday!
