Karla

I had at least 60 cultivars that are 4+ years old.
Due to memorable rainy Summer, this year, none of my fruits on none of my cultivars were memorable this year.
I had good Breba early in July from Many cultivars, like Katleen Black,Maltese Falcon,Gino,Atreano,JH Adriatic,Sicilian Black, etc.
When August came none of my main crop figs were memorable but filled with water, and tasting watery.
The Best Tasting ,main crop ,I had in this unsuitable condition for fig fruits was ,:
JH Adriatic
Nero 400M
They seem to resist best to this worse conditions.
Of course last year my list of memorable figs would have been much longer ,but last year was an almost normal Summer, not perfect yet enough good for my best selections to make memorable fruits.
I do not blame any of my figs for souring splitting and losing Flavor.
This year was the worse I have ever seen in my entire life when it comes about raining continuously for many days, exactly when fruits are ripening.
I find it hard to believe that Bass had so many memorable cultivar because he is living close to me,but may be the 30 inches of rain that fell here from Aug 10 to Today(yes it was raining in the morning, just like most every day),avoided his town.
 Edit Note:
Stella, had a couple of very good fruits at one time when there was a three day brake in the rain,so I should mention it.

I should mention that some trees, are late ripening and might make memorable fruits in October,so if so,I will mention them later,if they will.
In this group:Ital 258,Madeira Black,Calvert,Adriano,Verdal Longue,Paradiso Bronze.

Nelson,
Do you have photos of Unk. Ludgero, Unk. Yarmouth #2 ( Breba ), Columbaro Nero, and/or Yokneam Black?

Memorable figs--  hhhhmmmm----- let me see-------oh yeh.  My first two figs from my tree.  The two half eaten figs (remember, I gave the whole ones to my wife) I wrestled from the clutches of my ever hungry yard fauna were pretty good.

Variety - marked BT, possibly Celeste or someother.

Best figs of 2011 for me
1. Dried Black Mission from Fresh Market
2. Dried Greek Style Calymira figs
3. Fresh Black Mission from Whole Foods
4. My two half-eaten figs

Do any of those count?

Jimmie here is the link I posted photos of Unk. Yarmouth #2

Unk. Ludgero Breba

Yokneam Black I dont have and is on the top of my must have list.

Columbaro Nero I will check if I have pics on my phone looks similar to Sal's Corleone this fellow said he brought cuttings from Calabria many years ago.

Herman is correct, this was a disaster year for figs in our area and many of my figs spoiled. I did manage to get a crop before the rainy season started, and some in between the rain storms.  Many varieties fruited for the first time this year but were spoiled by the constant rain and didn't even sample it.

I will never forget my saucy little Minx  JLo...

Most of my plants are not yet bearing fruit but there were several older trees that did stand out this year.
Flanders (full rich flavor and good size)
Italian Honey (very sweet)
Violet De Bordeaux
Kadota
Aked
Celestial
Not worth eating: conadria flavorless mush (the rats won't even eat them)

Jon wont admit it but his favorite are the:

Brown Turkey
English Brown Turkey
Encanto Brown Turkey
Texas everbearing

Lmfao rafed.

Vista
Rbd
LDA
Giant blue celest
Uk Greek
Uk black small
Jh Adriatic

Nero 600M (from Herman)
Chicago Hardy (from Herman, and better than the one I had)
Mavra Sika (from Bass)

There were lots of other great figs, but these were the ones I couldn't wait to pick this year.

Next year the fig hedge should really hit its stride in production, with about 50 different varieties.

The LSU Purple is always a big winner, as is our Georgia White (unknown).

Best wishes to all.

John

October 7,Surprise ,surprise.
Yesterday Oct.7,I harvested a couple of fruits from each cultivars,I will mention below, and yes they were memorable.
Due to the blue sky we had the last 4 days,(finally dry weather, after so long ,Rain),
And also warm dry gentile wind coming from Ocean,my trees started having wrinkled, semi dry fully ripe fruits which are my prefer-ate,any time.
In no particular order these cultivars were memorable:
Stella,Marseilles black vs,Hardy Chicago,Malta Black,Violette de Bordeaux,Tacoma violet,Scot's Black,LSU Gold,Atreano,Kathleen Black.
Others, like Maltese Falcon,Bataglia green, Madeira Black,Ronde de Bordeaux,Ital 258,JH Adriatic,Nero 400m,also started turning color on some fruits so I hope they will be lucky to have a dry interval to get ripe in about 10 days from now.
All in all ,I am happy that finaly I am getting some properly ripe fruits now in October.
This was the most rainy Summer ever in My location,(Burlington Co,NJ)

Herman,

Glad to see you ripening so many nice fig.
You put a lot of time and energy into your trees, it's nice to read your being
rewarded with properly ripening fruit.

Thank goodness the rain has subsided, and weather has warmed.

Two questions please,

Do you have a recent picture/s of your Scott's Black?
From what I understand it is a nice fig to grow on the east coast.

And acknowledging your experience and all the types of figs you have grown or seen, do you have any idea what type of fig tree this my be?

Yes I have pixies of Scot's Black, but not the fruits that got ripe yesterday.
I know what you think:That your unknown is Scot's Black.
Well it look similar, but you do no0t have a clear leaf to look at.
It also look similar to Ital 258.
I would not name your fig the above till not sure.

hi again Herman.

Sorry If I wasn't clear.

I just wanted to see current photos of Scott's Black to see how they look so late into the season.

Even though they look somewhat similar I believe them to NOT be the same.

My " Big and Juicy " are larger,  and are a darker brown than the dark purple color of Scott's Black.  Also my leaves are noticeably different.

Sorry, I thought I posted pics of them.

I have now updated the thread to include three clear shots of it's mature leaves.

Thanks again, Nick.
