Sorry, away on vacation for a few days, missed the hubbub. Glad to see you taking the action to stay, Rafed. As a rookie I have appreciated your wisdom and experience that you share. This forum does not need to be split and would suffer in your absence.

Rafed, I'm very, very glad you have decided to stay.

But I'm also disappointed you deleted all the threads you started here over the years. That is another thing Jon has to change. You were righteously angry, but you should not have done that.

Quote:
I do however, have a confession to make. I did something without regards and out of shear stupidity.
I deleted every thread I posted.
For this, I am sorry.

3 things Jon needs to change.

1. Activate an actual 'ignore' list.

2. Ban members such as Aaron who have been shamelessly and consistently disruptive. Jon's done it before - and for individuals doing far less harm.

3. Prevent departing members from deleting entire threads that contain other people's posts. There have been several cases where this previously has happened and because of it, a great deal of really good information has been permanently lost. If a person wants to delete their own individual posts - go for it. But when whole threads that include other peoples' photos and knowledge are allowed to be removed - that is a real shame, and frankly not fair.

Sorry Rafed, it had to be said.

Rafed,

I've been a member for about two years. If I am unfamiliar, it's because I don't post much unless I have something to share or relevant to
contribute. However, I read the posts every day and have learned much from you and many others. I am glad you've decided to stay.

Rafed, check with Jon and see if there is a way to get those threads back. If not, that is a feature we need to see if it can be implemented.... a 10 day storage and retrieval for mistakenly erased threads. Just a thought.

Aaron, despite your conciliatory sounding post, actions speak louder than words. You will be closely watched by a lot of people waiting for the other shoe to drop.

The auction had nothing to do with Rafed.  I can't contribute to the foundation when the person running it completely ignores the will of the people that make that foundation possible.

Tell you what Aaron......you send a PM to the hundred people you spammed yesterday where you bashed me and admit you lied and we will discuss forgiveness.

Rafed's threads are still in Google's archive, finding a the archived thread by user pages are the key. I did it for another friend who got pushed out over a very similar circumstance. Putting the threads back in was the problem, oh and a couple people can not let it go, so he decided to ultimately leave after all. And I don't blame him, I wonder what I am still doing here sometimes.

Here are some lists of Rafed's thread titles, I am sure there are may more to find. Unfortunately they need to be searched individually on Google because of some viglink nonsense preventing Chrome from accessing the archive through the viglink address the forum provides.

Rafed if you would like help saving the info please let me know. Unfortunately all I can offer is a raw web page, all uploaded photo's are gone, and it will not be able to inserted back into the forum. From what I recall, Jon can't do anything about it. But it will be helpful to you to retain as documentation of your collection.

As Rafed said, we discussed it this afternoon and agreed to come back. It was not easy. But the people who expressed dismay at losing us and other members really swayed us into giving it one more chance. We have friends here. We love figs. Why should this not work?

That said, let's not forget the turmoil but learn from it. I would classify my mindset as "cautiously optimistic" at this moment. Can the forum maintain a zero tolerance for the things that drove us to choose to leave? Will we allow the previously named "asset" to continue as before or will he change? Only time will tell. If enough good folks stand up and do not allow the abuse, misinformation and general poor behavior, then this place can be great. Clearly, Jon is not going to intervene in these matters. That leaves it to us to stop the nonsense and bullying. We are either a community or we are not. We shall see.

In order to view them you need to go to the list and copy the thread title, then search Google for that title and click on the little arrrow next to the web address, a little box will pop up that says cached. Click on that and you will see the thread, then save. They will only be in Google's cache until the "crawlers" come through again, which might take days or weeks.

If anybody has a better way I would like to hear it.

Google has not been able to pull up a couple, either the crawlers came through or the address is wonky, which happens. But if they are in the wayback machine you should be able to find threads with the title as a keyword i guess.

Thanks Rafed for changing your mind and staying.  You are a very good friend.

I don't believe some of the requested changes can be made by Jon with the current forum software.  It's a free package and so it's not surprising that it has limitations.
Searching through various topics here doesn't show me anything about preventing members from deleting threads they've started or being able to have ignore lists, etc.  http://www.websitetoolbox.com/support/cat1

I'm a moderator (pretty much the only active one) at a fairly large forum at bananas.org and the vbulletin software does allow me to undelete posts/threads, etc.

The below is from the PM you spammed yesterday to who knows how many dozen members. .....if it was not a lie who are these "few other members"?  Post the links to the threads where I abused these "few other members".  Post the links where Hungry Jack and I "teamed up on you" "most of the time".   Unlike you I don't delete my old posts to cover my tracks.  Nothing has changed.......you can't admit you are wrong and that Aaron is at the heart of this entire problem.

Rafed, I'm using Firefox and it works fine for me.

I go to Brent's first link.
I use my mouse and highlight ("paint") over the thread subject such as "I need a Fiorene De Ruvo"
I right click with my house
I then click on Search Google for "I need a Fiorene De Ruvo"
The first Google result is a link to this thread.  Don't click on the link as the thread is gone.  To the right of the abbreviated URL there is a downward pointing arrow (or triangle). Click on it once and then click on "Cached".

Rafed, hope you're not mad at me for any reason but hope you've just been too busy to reply to my emails lately.  If I did something wrong, please accept my apology.

Some friends of who have similar views as me say I should move out of California because of all the things that are screwed up here.  There are still too many great things here (family included) let me leave here.

The last time I saw HungryJack post it was unalloyed cruelty, quite gratuitous. He attacked Aaron's sparse experience in recognizing a dead ripe fig, which was mean but perhaps true. No teaming up, that's an untrue allegation.

Just to post some facts,
I do not know WillsC.
In fact, I do not know any member of this forum personally.
I have not traded or received fig cuttings or plants from any member on this forum.
I have not sold or purchased any figs cuttings or plants from any member on this forum.
I have not emailed any member either.
I'm like Switzerland :-)

Since we are sharing snippets of pms
here is part of Aaron4usa pm to me.
I think the problem stems from the fact we are dealing with
an highly irrational individual here that views himself as the victim,
despite the fact they are the cause of the problem to begin with,
and fail to realize it, even with dozens of people pointing this fact
out to him in various formats.

" I have contacted Police and have plenty of records of your harassment acts and also I have plenty of strategic advice from them.

I suggest you refrain yourself from putting me down and tempering with my reputation.

Do NOT attempt to contact me because everything you do from this point on will be used against
you"

How does one interpret a message like this.
Does one assume its nothing but internet muscles being flexed,
or is this individual mentally deficient enough to actually believe
being corrected about his misinformation is some kind of threat to him
that he felt the need to contact the police.
Either way, this is obviously a highly irrational individual,
and unfortunately logic and reason are beyond his comprehension.

I waiting for the knock on my door from the LAPD,
but I'm willing to bet the USDA will be knocking on his door first.

Yeah so back to something constructive...

I got what i could, I can look some more tomorrow, i know there are more. About 20 are just not cached, sorry I kept a list but closed the tab by accident ; (

*Also could everybody please remove variety names and keywords (rooting, cuttings, air-layers, dehydration, diseases, etc.) from their signatures, it makes using Google to search the forum much more difficult, if not impossible. Thank you for your understanding.

And what the fig is Viglink and is it really worth screwing up the function of the site for a few bucks?

Is this a good sign? I'm playing the lotto.
