Metal Tags

Just saw this on EBay. I am not sure if this was a topic here or on the other fig forum. Just thought I would share.

Hey Ricci,
thats right on price in my opinion for metal tags.
Some folks make them as well out of aluminum can and things similar.
Its easier for me buying them , i could make them but probably cut my self.  ; )
I bought these at 3.69 for 20 copper tags with copper wire .
Easy to right on with ball point pen and will have a nice patina in years to come.
In the end that ebay price comes out better than price i paid and even better cause i used gas in car also !
Here are mine.

I use these:

They are solid brass, about 1-1/2" in diameter, and wired onto the tree with 12 ga. electrical wire. Nearly indestructible and do not rust or corrode, even in the potting soil.  I just keep a list of what name goes with each tag. They are from Craftmark  And, yes, I started at 001 and have more than 844 fig trees with these tags.

I also use the metal tags but I don't like the thin wire that comes with them. I have had that wire cut thin bark on trees causing the branch to die. I like the 12 gauge wire that you are using, Jon. I have been using strips of cloth but I think that I will look for the thicker wire.

I too use the aluminum tags and have also had issues with the wire cutting through the bark. I have been looking for the Nursery tags for a while but it I have had no luck finding them in Canada. Anyone know where I can buy a roll of a 1000 online?

Hey Nelson,

Is this what you are talking about?

Rafed my friend YES those are the tags Im looking for. Cant find them anywhere in Canada.

Now Jon thats a great idea for someone such as you with near a 1000 fig plants and looks neat to.
I remember years ago when i recieved my Princeton Elm tree it came with a round brass tag inscribed although i never used it but your idea is best one in my opinion.

Nelson,

Give me some time and I will get you some from a local nursery.

You can stop looking.

Thanks Rafed really appreciate it.

I got these off ebay not too long ago. I think they will go great with the metal tags.

No problem Nelson,
You Deserve it and more.

Hey Rafed I too seen that for sale on ebay recently seller is from Ontario. Do you buy the aluminum tags Seperatly? Thats very nice

Everything is sold separately. LOL

hahaha You just sounded like those commercials. Thanks

Rafed, I have been looking for those tags, too. What do you call them? Do you know of anyone that sells them?

Susan

I got my plastic ID tags, like the roll pictured above, from DP Industries

Thanks Jon!

Any tree tag should be very loosely tied to any twig; enough to allow
for growth (a soon fatter twig).....

Else, the twig/tree may be girdled (a dead sentence).

Same goes with any stake 'trying' for tree shaping growth.

Jon,

Thanks for that info.

Just called the local nursery where I purchased the roll from and they are now asking $50 for a roll of 1000. Plus they are pre-printed with their nursery info.
I asked why then they charged me $6 for the roll about a year ago and was told I might not have gotten the full 1000 roll.

Anyway, I told them I would get back with them.

My uncle owns a nursery/landscape business in Detroit and he will be over tonight and I will ask him if he can get them for me.

Just found Western tag & label @ westhort.com ( westhort.com )
877-729-3700

Looks like they are very cheap here.

$69 for roll of 2000 but if you buy 5 to 24 rolls then you get $35 discount on each.
I checked on 5 rolls of 2000 7" x 3/4" = $169 total

More discount of you buy larger quantities.

If we can get about 3 or 4 of us to chip in and have them delivered to one place and in turn delivered each his or her share it would still come out real cheap.

Susan,
Looks like this would be the best we can do right now.

I would be interested in a roll if enough other people want them to get the discount - otherwise I'll stick to the aluminum tags. What can you use to write with that doesn't fade?

Thanks Jon.

I would be interested in a roll.

Kyle
