I received this fig as a gift last year labeled Gino's Black.  Well it may be Gino's but it ain't black.

Please have a peek  and see if anyone can put a name to it. As you can see the fruit is long (like Stella)and the interior is reddish. The skin is tough, in a good way...and the taste is superb. I think this particular fig could have waited another week. All in all, a good fig but not Gino's. Muchas gracias.

Thanks Pete, I was not familiar with Dalmatie. It could very well be it.

I don't think it is Dalmatie. It usually has a more closed eye and larger.

Looks like Adriatic to me.

Count yourself lucky if it's Adriatic!

I don't know... it'd be easier if you used a knife to get a cleaner cross section.  Could be Adriatic, but I'm thinking Emerald Strawberry, aka UCR143-36.  (A good bit of variation in the leaves of that, scroll down to Jon's pix of it as well as the others).  Have you got another fig of it that you can give a clean cut?

Don't know what it is, but looks amazing. Ugly outside, drop dead gorgeous inside.

Maybe Smith- Check out pics about half way down.  I have seen them with lots of sugar spots also.

It could very well be Smith or Adriatic. Jimmie gifted me the tree and he has both. When he gets out from all the work he is currently under, I'm sure he will be able to clarify the situation.

Please accept my apologies. I am usually pretty good with labeling. However, I have hired little helpers to assist with pot stand ups, watering, and leaf pick up so you never know. I took a quick look at my spreadsheet. It's there: Gino's Black. October 2011. Me to You. Now, if you can, help me help you:

Was this one of the trees that I brought for the hedge or is this one planted in the main area of the 40? If so, was it labeled with a metal tag, white paint on the trunk, white paint on the pot, or all of the above?

It really looks like Camuna Small Black and given that you described the taste as "superb", I need to taste a few - six or more should do it - to be sure. Will you please post a photo of and describe the dominate leaf? Does my description in the post match what you have observed? Other possibilities are JH Adriatic (maybe) and Strawberry Verte (unlikely).

Jimmie, I am grateful for the fig. It is a top taster no matter what it is called. Re-reading my initial post, I can see how I might have come off sounding snarky. Believe me, I didn't mean to. You have singlehandedly populated a good portion of my orchard, so I thank you.

This is the one that you gave me last year and was planted in the main orchard area. The Gino Black from earlier this year was planted in the hedge but it has not yet produced. Both are labeled with metal tags. 

One of the characteristics of this fig is a  tough skin (which I really like). When you take a bite, you know you've taken a bite and it adds to the whole tactile oral taste experience. 

Jimmie, I don't have 6 of them but I do have 2 waiting for your taste test.

Not Sure what it is, but definately not Stella(wrong leaf shape), I don't think it is Smith either as is is a more squat fig.
