Yes, I missed the first 2 ripe figs this year!!!  ARRRGGHHH!  The first one I found a few days ago eaten and covered with ants Ewww!  Then I found one yesterday the birds got to :(

Today, I looked a bit and noticed there are a few turning purple, hopefully in another day or so.

The weather this year has been a bit different then the last couple of years.  In April we had a few nights dip into the high 20's, the tree had just started to leaf out then WAP!!  Frost!!  We have had rain late in spring and summer with rain this last week!  Temps have been A LOT cooler, I think just a couple of days in the triple digits - last year we were on day 20-25 by now.

Hopefully I will have a nice fig soon ;)

That's frustrating, I'm sorry that happened but know the feeling. I really hope you get to have some of the ripe ones. 

Oh that's so frustrating JoAnn. This morning I noticed the birds were scoping out my tree - but I put the organza bags on the larger ones so they can ripen in the bag and I won't miss them.

The same thing happened to me.  Last Thursday I saw my first fig to ripen.  I decided to wait one more day to pick it and when I went out Friday to pick it, I saw that half of it had been chewed off by the birds.  Some more are starting to ripen so I am on fig/bird patrol.  Let's hope we get to have a nice delicious fig very soon!
