Missing the excitment of getting fig cuttings

Well most of my sticks are turning into fig trees which is good but they are kind of boring right now.  Too little to do much except grow yet they still need to be watched a lot.
I'm kind of missing the excitement of waiting for the list to come out then the fun of deciding what to order, then the wait to see if you got what you ordered, then waiting to get the package.
Then waiting to see what would root first.  The whole thing was actually a lot of fun.

I feel that too. Been rooting since October and now staring at a box of moss that is nearly free of cuttings and a bunch that have rooted in cups but it is still to cold outside to move on to the next step of up-potting so I am in the cup babysitting limbo for the time being.

ohh.. how can you say that, I have my breakfast coffee with my rooters every morning...

Maybe because my rooters have moved to the greenhouse and I don't see them everyday.  Or have coffee with them.  At least when they were home I could poke them to see how they were doing.  Once at the greenhouse I'm always trying to catch up with something.

Schaplin, I'm feeling a little bit of that too. It's time to just get in a watering routine, forget about them, and let them do their thang.

Figs are tough. I have found that babying them kills them more easily than neglecting them. I guess some people are like that too....figs have personality...eh I digress...

Best of luck this season, the boredom will quickly vanish when they start putting out the fruits we all crave :)

you need to keep 10 or so near your house. it's fun checking on them everyday.. and some days, you go out and notice new leaf coming out.. or something strange going on. it's just relaxing way to spend the afternoon once i get home. just check on them to see if they need water, see if buds are swelling, if new leaves are coming out. the older trees are also fun, but they are pretty much set. just shaping them to way i want them to grow.. checking to see if figs are coming out. it takes few min to do all this and it doesn't feel like a chore at all.

Hi Schaplin,
Now go care for the trees :) .
I'm still excited at looking at the young rooted trees - even if some might go to the trash - but there is still hope... so lets hope and scream at them .
Now what gets me more excited is checking the trees, see the figs pop out ... and some figs turn yellow to my big despair ! "Goutte d'or" is really killing my patience !

And remember that on fig trees, we eat the fruits, not the stems nor the leaves :) . And don't tell me about the tea option :)

Just remember - A free plastic pot means not having a fig tree growing:)

Hmmm just bought 300 of them :)

Was at the greenhouse today and potted up some more fig-lets.  I now have 3 Nero's, 1 Black Bethlehem, a Vista, a LSU Gold, a Panevino White, a Panache FN, and a White Adriatic growing in 8 inch pots. I couldn't believe how fast the roots filled the 4 inch pots.   I could have done more but was running out of light.  Tonight I will finish making them the little aluminum dog tags that they get after they move out of the greenhouse.  Pictures will be posted soon.  Not quite as exciting as waiting for Jon to post the list but still fun.
