Mission fig cuttings available...for postage only

I need to cut back substantially one of my black mission fig trees as it is crowding my lychee trees. I will be moving it and dividing it to several clumps into large pots.

In the process I will have a bunch of large diameter (1 to 2 inches ) and some normal size (less than 1 inch) cuttings available to anyone interested, for no cost. I would like for anyone interested in getting some of those cuttings, to mail me a pre-paid pouch or box with return address and postage included,  where I can just take the cuttings, put them in pouch or box and drop them off at post office or ups. let me know your preference in size. I will limit to about 6 cuttings per person and see how that goes. The tree is almost fully dormant with just a couple of small old leaves barely hanging on and I will be chopping it in the next couple of weeks.
This is a confirmed black mission (aka mission, franciscana)  and I believe that the tree does have FMV. If interested pls send me a message for mailing address.

BUMP..... just shipped a pouch and a couple of boxes, a couple more in process.
Will continue taking 'orders' till this weekend, plenty of material left.
Get them while they're available, The best way is to send me postage fee ($10.95) for a medium sized flat rate box and get enough cuttings to start your own farm.
The smaller letter sized pouch flat rate is $5.20... your call

Last bump... shipped 4 boxes and 5 pouches so far, One more big branch to cut. Will do away with it before weekend one way or another.
here is a picture of an air layered piece from a couple of years ago from same plant, well established, picture from last year and is now almost twice as big. Base of trunk is about 5 inches in diameter.

Hey I'm def interested in your cuttings could you private message me with your address and I will send you a check or if you would prefer I could send you money for the postage through paypal.  Thanks,  Will

Pretty tree!

Thanks for posting the Pic

Will fill the last three boxes of cuttings today for tomorrow am shipping.

The confirmed black mission fig cuttings giveaway is officially over.

Best of luck to all recipients and feel free to post pics of your first fig from these cuttings or any additional info on rooting test methods, especially for the thicker
branches. I've uprooted the main tree and separated it in 4 rooted sections, the largest of which is now in a 25 gallon pot. My lychee trees are happy for the extra room as they are blooming their behinds off.

Thanks for the cuttings you sent me Ben. I've shared some. Some are in rooting media and some are still in the fridge.

BTW, Ben sent me a FULL box of ctgs folks! So for those who haven't rec'd yours yet, you're in for a treat!

Hey Ben. Would you mind posting a couple pics of your Lychee trees in bloom? Some pics of them in full fruit would be nice too. I know there aren't too many people who've seen Lychee fruit or the trees fruiting. I'd say there are even fewer who've seen what the blooms look like.

A couple shots of some of your other non-fig fruit trees might be nice also, if you're up to it - ?

Hopefully Jon won't mind a few non-fig pics :-) .

I will try to get some pics posted here of the material you sent, along with some progress pics.

Thanks again Ben.

Hey Ben I hope you got the check I sent out to you.  Thanks again in advance for the cuttings I can't wait to get them and start rooting them!!!  Thanks you are the man!!!!!

Ben, I'm thinking pic #5 is Mamey - ?   But I may have an unfair advantage.

Thank you for posting those pics Ben. Very nice to see some of that stuff again.

And you gotta be kidding on the Nam Doc Mai!! One of the best, most sought after mangos on the planet! Had the pleasure of eating only one or two of those. Delicious with no fiber right? Very unique shape for a mango too if I recall.

Mangos get me at least as excited as figs do. Sorry fig folks but if you haven't had many fully ripe, fresh-off-the-tree, mangos you might not be able to understand my saying that :-) .

Oh, yeah!  That's one of those trees where the fruits just pop out of the trunks everywhere!  :)

It's a Jumpin' Jehosephat tree!

noss

Bill, you are correct about pic #5. Is is a mamey var Pantin aka Key West.
These are this year's bloom and fruits, it takes 18 months for the fruit to mature. Last years crop got wiped out by the extended cold spell in South Florida. Mamey are popular in the latin community and fairly expensive. At $3-$5 per pound, a single fruit (they can weight 3-4lbs each when ripe) can be quite costly. They are very rich in flavor and make excellent ice cream shakes. Will follow up with a mature pic in 16 months or so.

Good guess on my part - yay! I was primarily guessing based on the leaves since I've never actually seen them in fruit. I've bought the fruit before from one of the roadside stands down in Homestead. I've made those ice cream shakes you mention. High in calories but delicious ;) .

Do you grow any Annona varieties Ben?

Only annona in my yard is  sugar apple, grows great and I really enjoy the fruit, very unusual shape. I have given away many seedlings and could probably open shop with them and my neem trees...

Hey Ben,
I got my cuttings today, Thank You they look great.
I can't wait to plant my cuttings and then have more new trees.
Thank You......
Debbie

Thanks Ben! I also received mine and they looked awesome!  :)

Hey Ben I got the box of cuttings all I can say is WOW you were not kidding when you said a whole box of cuttings!!!!!  This works out perfect now I can get them rooted and pass them out to all the family members on the italian side of my family that I have been promising trees to!!!  Thanks again for the gracious offer I couldn't be any happier!!!  Good luck with all your gardening this year!!

My cuttings arrived today while I was at the Farmer's Marking selling eggs. Thank you so much they are wonderful. I hope you left yourself enough.  I was given a box of tree plug flats and I think I will try starting the figs in those. It will give the roots 8 inches of growth space and the walls of the plugs are thin enough I should be able to cut the sides to remove the plants when it is time to transplant. I have been having a difficult time removing the rooted cuttings from the containers I have been using , without damaging the roots.

Thanks again . I really appreciate the cuttings.
Linda

Hi, Ben

Here is a pic of the cutting I potted today. Started 6 of them on 14 Feb. So far 4 have rooted and this is the second one potted. How are the Golden Celestes doing? Today I found a fig developing on one of mine!

Ruben, nice work.... The golden celeste are doing well. Will post some pics when I bump them up. They are still a little tender and in a shady part of my yard, as they put out more leaves, I'll gradually increase light. Thank you.

Ruben, question:  What is the tile spacer used for in the propagation process?
