Mission Fig Picture

My mission plant is young bought this season and put out figs late.Have a few more near ripe but temps are going down again.
This fig pictured has seen 2 patchy frost in my yard of 34 when grass was frosty, and the last 3 days temps have been in 80s. In short very up and down temperatures here this fall. I picked fig today. Taste - hmm i was quite surprised and look forward to when the tree produces more on time next season it should be high on my list in taste.
Wont upload pictures in Manage Attachments Feature after i shrunk to thumbnail under 1 mb so i use the img code

Congrats Martin, I was lucky enough to eat 2 dozen mission figs from my own tree this season and enjoyed them very much. Next season they will ripen earlier for you then you will be as happy.

Hi Nelson,
yes sir it will ripen earlier as its young like some of my others as expected.
It was nice to get a taste this year as i just missed out on a few other types . If i had Sals weather ..........
One day i might.   ; )

Well you are both lucky that your figs can stay that long on the plant to ripen so much. I watch every fig in the ripening process but the squirrels beat me to it before it is completely ripen. I lost 4 big bifara fruit today, half eaten then shredded on the ground. I tried to beat the squirrels to one of the Bifara fat partially ripened fig and got stiff upper lip, visibly fat, most probably because of latex under the fig skin. I am thinking of paper and scotch tape to cover the ripening figs.

Thats to bad Akram about the squirrels in your area. Personally if it were me i would encage mine and not share any with none of the animals and that keep out just about every critter except a hungry bear!
Seriously even if i had to dig em up if inground or restart them from airlayers all over again i would do this for myself and make 1 large chicken coupe with same wire for roof to let sun and rain in  40x10 with screen door on each end and 1 in middle and forget about them critters for good.
Thankfully critters here are not a problem .

Can you tell i like figs ?
