Mission tree dropping figs

I have a I have a second year Texas Mission has been growing pretty well in a pot all year. I limited the number of figs on the tree to 5. Now when they are starting to change color and getting softer they are dropping. There are only two left on the tree. I'm also getting a little nervous about my other trees they do not seem to be doing much with the figs on the tree. I am starting to think I won't be tasting any figs this year. We have really had a lot of rain this week in NJ. Can that cause the figs to drop? As far as the other trees Is it normal for them to sit with no change for so long? Is this normal in the northeast? I may have promised my wife we would be knee deep in figs as a way to justify getting so many trees so quickly, lol!. I starting to feel some heat from not having any results.

Here is are some mission picks

Here are two that dropped today.

Here is an Italian Honey The figs have maybe grown slightly in the past week, but they have been this way for a long time.

This is a second year sal corleone. It has 4 figs. It is growing well. i hope these hang on to ripen.

This tree is maybe 5 or so years old. It is in its second year in ground. This is one that I am wondring about. Figs showed up very early in June. Thinned out the crop by half to about 35 figs. The tree has been growing pretty well mostly from the bottome up and it really starting growing after I thinned out the figs. The figs started getting those ridges this week, but I'm still nervous they won't ripen.

Hey 71,

Glad you posted this i'm having the same problem with my Mission to.Mine turn purple shrivel up then drop.

Yup, that is what is happening to mine.

Figs in pot do that when anything was missing at one point or another, and easdpecially when young.
If you do not want fruit drop, let the fig grow roots in ground trough the draining holes.
Of course make more holes on bottom side of pot,for drainage and aeration.
I do not care how much you take care of your fig in pot.
You need to forget to water once and fruits will start falling out later.
Letting the tree go inground to take what it needs is the answer.
As a matter of fact I know Texas Mission does not drop when in ground.,because I had fruits from it in the Past.
As for being inpatient to get ripe fruits.
Young plants get fruit ripe much later than the cultivar will do when mature tree.
My older trees started getting ripe on the 10th,of August.
Your young trees will get ripe this year started September 1st.

I wouldn't worry too much.

I have a Tarantella in pot that had figs. I thinned out to about 12 and after a bunch of rain it started dropping a few figs.

My St Anthony's( same as IH) is in the same stagnant stage. One day it will go BOOM and they will swell and get lighter in color.

Thanks Herman, I have really kept up the watering only once in July I missed a day and they drooped, I was with my father in law after he had surgery. The only other mistake I made which I guess can be a big one is that I had to up pot them maybe a month ago. After I bought them from this one and the Italian Honey in pots that were about 3 gallons. I thought they would be good all summer and next year move up a size. I discovered they were were really root bound especially the Italian Honey. I up potted to I guess a 5 gallon or so pot and they seemed to be doing better. I was very careful. It kind of had me wondering about the up potting frequency. I got the impression it was up it one size a season. My new cuttings were in cups to 1 gallon pots and after a month so roots were poking out the bottom. I waited a bit and up potted then they took off growing. The Sal Corleone I picked up from you in July I pot in a 5 or 6 gallon pot and I noticed the other day roots growing pretty far out of and trying to get in ground. I thought it would be fine in that pot until next year when I can figure out how I am going to manage these trees.
I was thinking next year I would do what you said about making more holes and letting the roots go into the ground. I have most trees sitting on the ground now, but roots are not going in the ground since there is only one hole in the bottom and I just placed the pots on the lawn along this fence. I did not clear grass away.

Herman do they need root pruning or they be in bigger pots?
