Mist Table propagation

Granted this is a spring and summer method for propagation but one that i found works very well for figs and just about everything else. in the pic we have blackberry plants. though i must say that i am making changes to my medium. in this i was using 40%perlite 40% corse sand and 20% peat moss. i will take the sand out next year and use more perlite with still 20% peat for some moister retaining.

cuttings were taken from fresh new years growth and treated with dip n grow. and placed right in the medium. i got a tote about 6 inches tall and drilled small holes in the bottem for drainage.

now the misting system that is in my small green house was set up on a timer starting at sun up to run for an hour and a half be off for 3 hours then run for another hour and half off for three then on for 2 hours and off for 2 then on for 45 min as the sun started setting. the mist hose plugged right into the garden hose and let out a fine mist somthing like 2 gal an hour. the system i got on ebay for 25 bucks.

if you dont have a green house this could be done just as easy on a patio or somthing. here are my results after 3 weeks.

Thanks Dave, I'm sure it will help lots of people here. Learn something new everyday!

I hope it atleast can inspire ideals that my lead to better more productive rooting methods. thats why we do these test to see if we can get improvment.

Yes those are miracle fruit seedlings, growing in illinois. they sure do grow slow. good eye. i also have alot of pepinos growing at that time to

the first pepinos i grew from seed. i have been keeping them going from cuttings every year since. they root super easy and fast.

Dave,

That's a healthy looking DK cutting/rooting you have there.  So did that one start in the misting chamber as well?

Yea figs i can root just about anything on the misting table. though like i said i am going to omit the sand from the mix and go only with and 80% perlite 20% peat mix. i also should add that i think waxing the tops of mid cuttings is a must. tipeed cutting are ok. this system works great if you have alot of cuttings going at one time. i could easily fit close to 200 cuttings in this single tote. i have rooted figs, blackberries. raspberries, rose of sharron, cherry, apple, and pepino melon in this system in one season. of corse some root quicker than others. but this is the ultamate set it and forget it propagation system i have ever had.

Dave

almost that time again. perlite is so hard to find this time of year.

Dave search the net at some joints you can get 4 cubic foot bags of it.
