Mixed Up Labels

Due to a poor misplacement of a few labels, these eight labels blew off while the trees were leafless. I had to wait for leaves and fruit to try to break the code. Matching fruits and leaves to pictures is not difficult but not fun either. From left to right, the labels read China White, Jurupa, MVSB, I-258, GM#1 Malta Purple Black, Mimi's Green Honey, Nero, and Sal's EL.

I believe the first three photos are China White that was not ready and thus not good at all. The final three may be Sal's EL which was good with a slight crunch that I like. I will include photos of leaves as I remember to do so.

Lesson Learned. Tie metal tags on main trunks only and use paint markers to write names onto pots.

i typically use masking tape on the pot, and write the name on it. then found out the last masking tape i bought didn't retain the sharpie ink. so now i have few trees with no name on them. but i have so few trees, it's not hard to tell which is which.. i need to fix that.

When I got my first batch of cuttings from Jon, I marked all the cuttings with a regular sharpie. Didn't realize the moisture during rooting would blur the sharpie ink. I was just barely able to make out partial markings (and some process of elimination) and match up with my order list to figure them all out. Lessons learned!

James, I had the same issue with the Sharpie. I now use a paint pen. I use it on my pots and place tags on the trunks like JD.

I was told at a local daylily farm to use a pencil when labeling garden tags.  That they don't bleed or wash of during rain.  Its worked well for me this year.

China White? As the mislabeled trees fruit, I get somewhat closer to reconciling the mixed up labels. There seems to be an ancillary but equally disturbing issue...do I have what I was given. When I reconcile the labels, this should be China White RW but it is different from what a member I trust has posted [1][2].

Meanwhile, this 42g fig is honey sweet and that skin crackin' looks good. As Gene mentioned, it does have a different taste. Unfortunately, it still tastes like a light colored fig with a light colored interior, i.e., not my favorite.

Drill a hole in the pot and use stainless steel wire (fishing wire) not the aluminum the tags come with it rots very fast
