I was curious, when I take my cutting from the baggie I put then directly in potting soil and pearlite in a 1 gallon pot and always put like 3 in one pot close and it works quite well. This time I have mixed up my cuttings and Im pretty sure there are two kinds in one pot. What happens when you do this? Can they grow into a two trunk tree with 2 types of figs? I cant be sure at this point but I dont want to take them out because they are doing so well.Just curious :)
You can seperate them and repot them if you have them mixed up. Or you can let them grow together and you will have "one tree" with 2 types of figs. It would be a conversation starter. It is possible that the trunks will fuse together but you will likely still have 2 distinct trees.
If there were a limited number of varieties, after they root, you can seperate them, and probably ID them from the leaves, or wait till the fruit.
Cool info! Thanks guys! I was thinking since there are no special plans for them so I guess I will just plant them together, that sounds fun :) These cuttings came from: one kind soul left a huge pruned healthy branch by the road with a ton of great cuttings and couple of dried figs on it and the other one was beside an abandoned store/parking lot so I dont even know what they will turn out like. Exciting huh! Youll are probably thinking
Im a dork right now ;/ haha
You are at "Figs 4 Fun" so it is supposed to be fun. No dorkiness about that.
hahaha I get carried away sometimes. I get strange looks from the fam and friends when I get started talking about fig trees.
My wife accuses me of taking better care of my figs than my kids. The running joke is when I get home I ask how are by babies and she knows I mean the figs (well, the kids too - but really the figs - they are much quieter and demand a lot less).
I get the same thing, lol. They mock us but eat our babies (figs of coarse) ;)
Figs of course, the other is frowned upon by some ;)
