These are so yummy. This comes from my great Aunt's 40 year old Celeste Fig tree that many of you have been asking about. Her tree is HUGE, probably 50 feet tall. I didn't have a knife on hand which is unlike me so this shot isn't as good as it could be. Washed up a few, not sure why lol. I usually just eat these straight off the tree.
Looks good. Congrats
Looks good. Are they just starting to ripen there?
Na just got around to posting the pics.
TN Fig, Love the "big" ones, and the small ones look tasty too. :)
Tennesseefig those look great! I have several variations of Celeste and as I walk around my yard these past three weeks and pick different figs I always look forward to the Celestes. They have a certain look when they are perfectly ripe in the upper part of the fig right before the stem. They never fail to satisfy. All the critters think so too!
I'm from NC and there you will find Brown Turkey and Celeste all day. Out here in TN hardly anyone grows figs and most people aren't very familiar with them. These taste like candy right off the tree. There are so many figs that come from this one tree that no one keeps up with it these days unfortunately.
Thanks for the comments!
Very nice. You have to love a ripe Celeste. But then maybe I'm biased, being born and raised in the southern US.I still remember eating figs off my Grandmother's tree until I was pretty much sick to my stomach. I have no idea if they were Celeste or BT, but they were delicious.Cliff H.
Looks good but I would let it ripen at least another week. Celeste has the ability to get more ripe than most figs, that's what makes it such a good fig
Wow. Unfortunately I am going to cut my Celeste down. It keeps dropping figs. I am going to graft other variants to its branches.
Another week would have been impossible for many reasons. Most of the figs were falling off of this tree due to over ripeness and the fact that the tree isn't harvested as often these days. I was only in the state for a short time so I took what I could get. Most of the good ones were eaten before pictured lol.
I have my own celeste trees here in TN but there are wee babies lol.
