mobile version of F4F

So far, I love the new mobile version of the site. Much easier to read and navigate on a phone.

Too bad there doesn't seem to be a way too attach pics. Not could not do that with the desktop version from my phone anyway.

I'm liking the mobile version as well, however, it seems like the side bar keeps expanding on its own. Perhaps that is operator error. I'm on an iPhone IOS7. Is anyone else experiencing this? FYI I'm not hitting the menu button but seems to happen when I scroll. I have been able to post pictures from phone to the desktop version of the site which was really convenient. I never knew there was such a thing?

The regular site has been working great for me on my phone except for uploading pictures. The new site isn't so good on my phone. Then again it probably Is geared towards newer phones not a blackberry curve. Maybe ill try my wifes phone for that though.

Other than that I'm glad to see the forum moving on up in the world.

Dave, is that a fly?

I have the same issue as Scott using my iPhone-the side menu opens when I try to scroll and scrolling is difficult.

It has a nice clean look, but I miss the signatures that help identify the poster faster than the user name. As a new member I'm trying to learn people's names, which are generally in the sigs. I'm using the full version again for now.

While I may be learning the ropes with figs, my background is in digital operations including mobile apps and sites and this is an excellent first launch (looks to be well thought out and user friendly). I'm sure the kinks will get worked out and glad to know it's not operator error. Haha. Im so thankful that this is still a free resource. Development costs can be quite expensive and it's amazing that there are no ads, sponsors, sign up fees, etc to offset the costs! The site alone truly is a gift to everyone who shares this passion for figs.

OK - more mobile device version feedback. There seems to be no way to know within the mobile version where a person is from or what their 'zone' is. The signatures can't be viewed, and clicking on a member's user name takes you instead of to the usual user profile to a 'techie' sort of page that gives your name, your 'user group' ( is everyone but Jon a registered user-if so what is the point), lists your number of posts, date joined, last forum activity and a link to a search for all posts by that user, but the very 'useful-to-a-fig-grower' info on a person's USDA zone and location is nowhere to be found. Would be nice to have it tailored a bit to include info useful to a fig grower. Also having trouble bringing up larger pics from thumbnails. Hopefully this version can be edited, seems like a good idea.

I hadn't noticed the missing signatures.. bummer.   I'm assuming this is a new feature of the forum hosting service, websitetoolbox.  Maybe we need to compile a list of issues and enhancements for Jon to give them.

I see the signatures on each post on this thread.  Is that what you are talking about, James?

Dave, that bug freaked me out at first, I thought it was ON my screen.....lol.

I see the sigs on the regular version but if I switch to the new mobile version of these forums, there are no sigs. There are no features to turn them on in control panel. I tried logging out and back in, tried every part of control panel, tried switching back and forth between versions, all to no avail .
Are you in the mobile version and seeing signatures?

I'm having the same problem, the side bar just jumps out if no where and takes up the whole screen, besides that I like the mobile version. One other thing I don't care for is when I look at a pic it always opens in another tab, with the old version most of the pics would open in the same tab I'm in. I haven't tried to upload any pics yet, from what I see I can do it with out photo bucket now. Oh wow I didn't notice the sigs were gone either, that's not good!

spider mite

That's funny Dave, I didn't know what Meghan was talking about until I switched back to te regular version, I think I'll stay on the regular version for now.

OH great.  Everyone using the mobile version thinks I'm bonkers.  And Dave, your "spider mite" is running backwards....

Is there a way to switch to a regular version on a smart phone?

Ok, I found the way to switch. In that sliding side bar on the right side at the very bottom there is a link to thr Full version! Nice.

lol  Dave

Man... I switched to the full version on the phone and getting this annoying banner 'Switch to mobile' every time I click on a new thread. Any way to permanently get rid of it??

This is the product of the hosting service, so I have no control over it. Doesn't on my Samsung flip phone, anyway. ;-))

A few friendly suggestions about the "switch to mobile":
Ideally mobile users would be automatically directed to a full feature mobile site that they would stay on. Since there are a few bugs and missing features users are switching to desktop and getting the switch to mobile pop up.

Workarounds:
-many content management systems can simply turn this pop up on or off
-sometimes mobile users can be directed to a splash page that asks to continue to site or switch to mobile version
-a frequency cap of once per 24 hours or so could be placed on the pop up to limit it from showing so much
-mobile users could be directed to a slightly modified desktop version of the site with a switch to mobile link inside a mobile button.

Lastly, if there is a reported issue it usually helps the developer out to know what type of device and operating system are being used. :)

Hopefully this helps. And yes Daves bug freaked me out too! Haha

If your on Android using Chrome Browser, you can go to the browser settings and click "Request Desktop Site". Then you'll get the desktop version w/o the link at the bottom asking if you want to switch to the mobile version.  i don't know if that feature is available on iPhone.

Thanks for the tip. That works on the iPhone as well!

Oh man, now every time I go to a new topic it automatically switches me back to the mobile version, then I switch back the desktop version click on one thing and right back to mobile version..........now I don't like it, lol. When I had te choice it wasn't so bad, lol.

I wonder if they disabled the mobile version. I can't get to it at all now.
