Mold on potting media?

I have some mold growing on the surface of the potting media! It is not on the plant but I'm worried that it soon will be. What should I do?

I was thinking about skimming the surface but I'd bet it is subsurface too. I don't like the thought of pulling the plant and rinsing the roots before repotting, It is only on a few plants and not all. Will a fungicide work?

Physan 20. Mix spray done. No more mold.

The odds are the mold itself is innocuous. Plants live happily side by side with thousands of species of fungi (mold), either ignoring them or even forming symbiotic relationships with them. It's only a few species that cause problems. Of more concern is the conditions that provide a favorable environ for the growth of the mold. Is it an indication your medium is too wet? Think damp - never wet or soggy. I'm guessing if you let the soil dry down to a favorable level that any mold problem will disappear.

..... and your sure it's a mold/fungus, and not a precipitant of salts from the soil solution? Is it hard and crumbly or soft like cotton candy?

Is it just white fuzzy mold?  I usually get this when I use peat and fertilize with fish fertilizer and its cold and moist.  I just break it up and mix it back in the soil, keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get worse.

It is definately mold (soft, white and fuzzy) as it is a new soilless mix and has only been watered not fertilized. It only happened on the inside ones and I will be putting them outside now. I'll monitor and it will probably go away.

Thanks all,

UPDATE: I placed the plants outside under the grapefruit tree and on 4/17/12 all the mold was gone and the mix was noticeably drier. Apparently I was over watering even though I thought I was being careful!
