Moles and Figs

Well I moved some trees in the garage for some figs to ripen. checked them yesterday to find  they did ripen and a mole got to them before me. And one of the trees he dug a hole to the roots and shredded them. Any Ideas how to keep moles away from my trees. Ive used mouse traps in the past with good success this year  i let my guard down and they got me any help would be greatly appreciated

Thought moles only ate worms and soil bugs?

It's probably a vole. Voles will eat the bark, roots, figs and sometimes even the wood. I had a couple of whole tree completely disappear from them. Now I set traps, and put mothballs and chopped garlic around the trees. Last was the first year with no damage so I'm going to do it again.
I was told you can also buy a product called "Scoot" but I haven't found it around here to give it try.
I hope you get them under control because once those critters find a food source they invite the whole family over for dinner and you're picking up the tab.

A stray outside cat will get some of them the wilder the cat the more critters it will bring to your door. I have never been much of a fan of them until we got a dumpster kitty for my son she kills at least one vole a week sometimes up to 3.

update I caught  one of critters he also ate the bark on the tree  I thought it was a mole ma be its a vole

Definitely a vole

I had voles in my hoophouse last year. As soon as the sap started to rise they were on everything. They killed several fig trees as well as a couple japanese maples, lilacs, and plum trees. I tried several different kinds of traps and poison but the only thing that worked for me was to get everything at least 18 inches off the ground on benches. They not only tunneled into the pots and ate the roots, they would eat 12 inches of bark above the soil line and some trees were completely severed. Hundreds of dollars worth of damage in only 7 days. I have dogs in the neighborhood that will kill cats so that isn't an option for me.

And I thought fruit fly was a problem...

Ok I caught a vole today  I had Moles and voles I think the vole  was the one that did the damage. Thanks Susan
