Momma Gopher 0

HAHA.......There ya go Dennis

Man, I'd have liked to have seen that with some squirrels at my house.  They haven't touched my trees in almost 2 weeks now, it feels like.

I know what you mean Jason,

That is the beauty part of living in the country here!

Shoot them suckers, and if the tree rats ever decide they want to mess with our fig trees they will meet the same fate, sides that the squirrels are a whole lot easier to hit.

what sort of trap did you use?

Hey Cecil,

This little guy takes care of the gophers in my yard. Gophers taste like chicken. He is pictured here eating some chicken for practice in my back yard.

Cecil,

That Gopher looks like it's laying on the "Shadow of Death".

Dan,
I think I'd rther have the Gophers in my yard than that, "little guy"!!!!!!
Peg

I've gators a few times.
They taste good.

gator tail is a personal favorite of mine.

@ sterlinggold....I have two victor gopher traps that are attached to one of them corkscrew looking doggy leash things......That is not what I used on this one, She got a load of birdshot in her kisser from my 410 shotgun.

@ Rafed,,,,,,,,You noticed that shadow, in that case it was the shadow of death....My Shadow.......HEHE

@ Dan....That little guy is harder to kill than the gopher, ya have to hit with a direct shot to the brain, I'm thinking it might have a silver dollar sized brain.

That gattor is so cute I need one. In Jersey we don't seem to have gophers.

@The_celt  Cute is in the eye of the beholder!

About 3 years ago I was crabbing(with crab traps) at Indianola Tx in a real small boat, there was a gator that was about 20' long (that's the gator I saw or I thought I saw) watching me from about 100' away, when I reached out for my trap I tumped the boat over (tumped is TX talk) and that ol Gator started toward me!

Only thing that saved me was the stuff??? I was expelling in that water hole!

So go ahead........getcha one...I pass.

Sterlinggold, this is how I set my traps(2)  Just make sure the traps are anchored or else when you nail the gopher you might not ever see your trap again.

Peg,

'Gators don't eat figs, though...  :)

Cecil, I can picture you running on top of the water to get away.  And don't feel bad--squid and octopi expell ink to cloud things up and confuse their predators.  ;)

Our kids used to say, "tumped over".  And all this time, I thought it was a Cajun expression.

Figluva:
I grew up next door to Indianola and Magnolia Beach.  Just exactly where were you setting those crab traps??

There were lots of gators in Green Lake, but I never saw one down around Indianola.  Were you up in the mouth of Powderhorn Lake or over in Chocolate Bayou?  Used to see lots of sea turtles on the little shell island in Chocolate Bayou.

When I was a kid he N. wind would blow the tide out and I'd carry an orange crate out on the reef leading to the shell island.  I'd open and eat all the oysters I could reach, sitting on the orange crate to keep my butt just out of the water.  When I had opened all I could reach I'd move the crate a bit and start over.  That was maybe l943, 1944.
Ox

Hi Ox,

At the risk of not sounding racist.......The place I had my crab traps was called some kind of hole......I don't plan on calling it that!

Anyhow if you was going from Magnolia Beach to Ed Bells fishing camp it would be that hole of water on the right that goes into Powderhorn lake HEHE

We had our place close to the mouth of Powderhorn.

And if you were raised up at Magnolia Beach you just had to know one of the SWEETEST lady's on this planet (Mrs Tewmay)

And yes, I have pigged out on oysters from the reef on little grass island too.

Now to Figs

I took some cuttings about 5 years ago from a place in Pt. Lavaca...but they didn't make it.
{Edit}  OX I sent ya a PM

Regards

We have no pets.  Have a gazillion kids and grandkids, and we have done our time (but we have a gazillion gophers and voles too)!  So I'm taking a chance on this one!  Just purchased 124 Castor Bean seeds from Ebay for cheap.  The plant is gorgeous, as are the blooms, but the seeds contain ricin which will kill an adult in a nano, and a gopher even faster!!  I will germinate 2 seeds at a time until one takes, and will surround that plant with chicken wire so no grand-kid or bird can get close.  We will let it seed, and handle the seeds with gloves.  Into each hole on our acreage will go one seed, and also under every deck.  Too many gophers, voles and rats, and too little time!  The entire property, well most is fenced, and if we accidently get a squirrel, a fox, a bob cat, a lynx, a raccoon, a possum, or any other destructive thing, won't bother me a bit!!

Because of the chain link fence (very sturdy) coyotes or dogs belonging to neighbors can't enter.

False - he will get over that fence with little effort.
They go up trees and even straight up and over cement walls as seen in this video snatching a cat.

If your climate resembles that of the Pacific Northwest (US), you might see if you can get ahold of a tree octopus. They do a great job of keep the tree rat population down....and being carnivores, they leave your fruit alone.

They were once nearly hunted to extinction, but are making a comeback and are even bred in captivity.

Suzi, please be careful and good luck. I'll be very interested in your results.

Martin, great video, thx.

Can one of those octopi guard my spaghetti trees?

Not northwest.  No octupus in trees.  Southern California, slightly north of Mexico and the Drug Lords.

Only ammo I have is the BB gun, and that lethal seed.  Have the boots, the hat, and the guts to do what is necessary to protect our territory against varmints!!

Suzi

All octopi are omnivorous; even the made up ones!  ;-)
