Money Saving Idea (video)

Brilliant idea.

Eden , thanks for posting this.
I have been using them for a few years and they work well.
For marking the figs I use long ones and write the name with a Sharpie or paint stick above and below the soil line on the marker.
If the above ground name fades the one below the soil remains readable on the tag .

Are you talking about the "Elmer's Painters" paint markers from WalMart?
I used them after you suggested and found them doing smooth writing on cuttings but the marker did not lost very long like Sharpe does. The markings last but the marker does not last long. What is your experience?
I will still continue to use it because my other known alternative "White Tire Markers" cost more.

Ha.. never thought of this. Always learn something new when ever I visited this forum. I've also been using sharpie to tag my cuttings and plants. It has last quite a long time but time will tell.

I use Sharpie Painters marker they last for long time.

You are welcome Kerry

The mini blind slats work well. I use them with a garden marker

Rather than buy a good blind and cut it up, stop by a window covering store and ask if they have any damaged blinds. They had 3 to give me and were happy for me to take them away. Less trash for them, free plant tags for me.

I was thinking damaged blinds might work well.  Salvage yards might have some cheap too.  Love the idea!  I'm still using sticks made from aluminum cans and embossing names with a ball point pen.  Embossing never fades.

I use a whiteout pen it works great and is a lot more visible than black marker!!

That's what I use, after a couple years they can get brittle, but as long as you watch them. I as well use a single hole paper punch and tie them on a branch.

I read the comments to that Youtube clip, and someone mentioned miniblinds containing lead. After doing some research, it seems aluminum miniblinds have never contained lead, but some of the vinyl miniblinds did. Therefore, it's a good idea to stick to Aluminum miniblinds.
