Monrovia Mission

Recently got to eat my first fresh Mission figs and boy are they allot better than store bought ones. One of my favorite figs so far.

Nice Nelson.
I maybe get a taste of mine from monrovia.
I think they will only improve as tree matures !
Ive read its not good for containers cause it grows to fast this type, i will fix that if mine turns out to be worth keeping.

Hey Martin, Mission does seem to be a vigorous grower I pinched mine a few times and it kept growing new branches and more figs and I kept pinching and picking off the smaller figs. Well so far I ate 5 mission figs and loved every one of them, its sweet and has a nice flavour I like. I just wish there was more ripe figs at the same time, oh well eventually it will I hope.

Yes mine is doing same , i just keep taking these new shoots off. I might get a ripe fig or 2 this season if it stays warm enough.
Also i keep all new growth off because that part wont make it through storage as well.
Come next season i keep it to size i would like for the container by keeping it in check along with the root system eventually.

I arived at the conclusion that a fig for container ,has to grow fast and wanted to be large, because it is allwayes stressed and if it is one of those slow growers, and in pot it takes forever to fruit, and mature.
Also a fast ,large grower, will recuperate much sooner from a root pruning, than a slow grower.

Nelson, let it get ripe next time - maybe 2-3 more days. Should be dark and jam-like when really ripe.

Jon the day I picked this one I picked two ate one then took pics of this one. The one I ate first was more ripe and had more cracks on the skinand the pulp was a little darker and boy was it good. I have a few more ripening now but I will definately leave them a couple more days as you said.

Hey Jon is this better?  I could of eaten it with a spoon, very very jammy.

Hi Nelson.
thats a wonderful looking fig there !

Sounds like Monrovia might be a winner for you so far ?

Martin, Indeed very nice tasting fig the first figs I picked when weather was still nice and warm regularly were a bit bigger in size, but not as jammy now that I took Jon's advice I do notice alittle difference in the flavour. Very happy with the outcome. I have been lucky this season surely I ate allot more figs than last season. Definate Keeper for me

Well Nelson thats good to hear .  ; )
I will taste a few this season.
