Just wanted to share these pics of a trained old fig tree that I found today in some backyard.
I'll have to visit it again during the summer to see what the figs look and taste like!

Reminds me of the "frankenfig" that has been posted on the forum before.  Someone definitely spent a lot of time pruning it and training the branches to grow that way.

That has to be for bird protection. A tree that size has been attracting birds for many summers.

Thanks for sharing!  The land looks similar to what we have here in Southern California.  Figs and Israel go back thousands of years, so I guess they have something on us when it comes to training and bird protection!  It will be fun to see it in leaf with the protection on.  Looking forward to the update.

The monster, two and a half months later.

Unfortunately I did get a chance to talk with the owner. The tree is located somewhere in southern Israel, and I don't get to visit the place very often. It might be a dark fig, though, since I saw some red on new leaves. can't wait till summer!

If those thick and apparently fully exposed  limbs at the center of the tree are not going to get shaded soon by additional foliage, they should be white-washed now. Left unprotected could easily be sun burnt.
