I found this interesting. The largest Morton Bay fig tree in Calif is in the San Diego area:http://www.10news.com/news/mysandiego-the-massive-spring-valley-fig-tree?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=fanpage
Two trees that became one. That's pretty romantic.
You could build a great tree house there. Thanks for posting.
I've never seen a tree of any kind that large. Impressive. Does it bear fruit?
It does bear "fruit" but nit is not edible.A word of warning. Being inside the fence requires a permit. Picking up fruit (for seeds) inside the fence, requires an additional permit.
This is not a ficus carica, it is different kind of fig, right?
Greenfig, yes it's not edible. Different kind of Ficus. Ficus has many varieties. Carica is the one we all love.Suzi
Ficus macrophylla. Not edible. There is a similar tree in age and size in Santa Barbara, near the train station if I remember correctly.
I wonder if one could graft F. carica onto it?
Sue..... thanks for the post, I thought all the big Morton Bay fig trees were in Balboa Park. Too bad no edible fruit, eh. Jon mentions the Santa Barbara's Moreton Bay Fig Tree, which I think is on a par with this one. Planted about the same time! I remember years back, so many hippies camped under the tree that the USPS recognized it as an official delivery address.
